its common to have disagreements but not to actually verbalize it. a lot of pilots and atc will say things like "well that's not what our chart shows but okay, wilco." Perhaps what you heard was simply sarcasm? A lot of controllers know pilots well from years of flying and joke a bit on ground control freqs...
ground control can get a bit political as far as who you push back first or who's gate you block, etc.... this is often a issue that creates some attitude.

The controller is the one that controls your sequence in or out of the airport, so getting in a fight with a controller whilst in the air might get you to practise some holding pattern procedures. I personnally haven't heard a controller get in a verbal fight with a pilot. I can recall a few times when the controller got mad at me, but I apologized and it turned out ok.
