Failed Airlines In The 1980s

Does anyone know what airlines failed during the 1980s and why they failed?

I know People Express and Laker Airways were some, but does anyone know some others?

Braniff. It was too bad too. They were quite original in their day with the Pucci uniforms and Calder airplanes.

There's a good book that covers this called "Deregulation Knockouts: Round 1". It's been a few years since I bought it and I'm not sure if it's still around, but it's worth checking out if you're interested in airlines that failed during the 1980s.

Most failed for lack of capital. Some were bought by larger airlines. In the era of deregulation just about anybody who thought they knew something about running an airline gave it a try.

Don't want to sound too pedantic, but Pan Am surely failed in the early 90's.
I flew with them in Sept. '91 and they went not long after that......but I'm sure it wasn't my fault!!!!

APP-You are totally correct. PanAm did not fail in the 1980's(by your fault or anybody else). Their last day of operations was December 3, 1991.

A certain analyst recently proposed/expanded on an interesting theory:

Airlines must reinvent or redefine themselves a minimum of every 10 years (via bankruptcy, completely biz model overhaul, etc) or die....

...perhaps he'll expand on it further  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Also, I know each other and both was work with Air Florida long time ago. Which one of Mark Monse & Steve Belleme was work together of more than 20 years ago and they were knew each other and sometime I write email to them.
