I know it sounds mad but a friend of mine told me that a couple months ago avinca had leased 3 DC 10, I didn't believe him also but last Friday in my trip from BOG to CTG in the "EUFORIA" Magazine of March I saw that in the fleet page appears a DC 10 with a title of number of Aircraft:3, so it confirmed my doubt

Man, with all due respect and sincerity, this is one of the craziest things I've heard recently. You must have gotten confused.

The nearest think is that in 1998, Avianca leased an MD-11 for 5 weeks for the extra demand on the flight to JFK.

But 3 DC-10s??? Come on ! this must be a joke.

I repeat, I have the same Euforia edition, and in the page where the route maps appear, above the fleet, there's nothing unusual.

There is no such thing as 3 leased DC-10s for Avianca.

If this was true, it would have appeared on the national newspapers or in Avianca's website don't you think?

I just checked in the website and nothing there...

So, you can start telling the guy who told you about the imaginary DC-10 that he is quite misinformed...

What will AV do with these DC-10's????????????? Confused

It's hard to believe that they will get these planes... They're old and drinks a lot of fuel.
Maybe they mentioned the MD-11 from the 90's (thanks Southa)
Or maybe it can be the 3 Lockheed L-1011 Tristars that AV would buy back in the 70's but they never landed in Colombia because AV stopped the deal at the last moment.
