American Eagle RJ's In The Caribbean?

Hey,
To all the members who have some knowledge about AA's/Eagle ops in the Caribbean;
1. Do you know if there are any plans to introduce RJ's in the region out of their SJU hub? Is it even feasible to do so?

2. I have not read anything official about this except on some discussion forums that with the introduction of AA into Hewanorra (UVF) in the fall, American eagle will cease operations to Castries (SLU) . It has been suggested that the FAA did not approve the RJ's into SLU, hence the proposed pullout. It as also been suggested that the mere introduction of AA into UVF would mean more seats than are needed to the island, so the Eagle would cease ops into slu as a result

This was on a discussion forum, I am only seeking confirmation and or correction of the above. Thank You !

No, it is not in the plans, neither is it feasable.

One of the biggest sources of income on AA's Caribbean prop routes is cargo, and no RJ can compare to the ATR-72 in cargo carrying capabilites.

It has been suggested that the FAA did not approve the RJ's into SLU, hence the proposed pullout.

I have not heard anything of a proposed pullout of SLU. It would not surprise me to see frequency on SJU-SLU reduced, but I would be surprised to see the service end, even with MIA-UVF starting in November. SLU is much more convinently located to the resort area than UVF.

However, that reason makes no sense, since American Eagle has no plans of starting any RJ service in the Caribbean/Bahamas from Miami or San Juan. They are running RJs on RDU-NAS and will soon run them on DFW-NAS, but they won't be replacing ATRs with RJs on any MIA/SJU routes in the near future. As I mentioned, the ATR is perfect for this kind of operation. It can take off on shorter runways (many runways at destinations American Eagle serves can't handle much more than an ATR) and offers superior cargo carrying capabilites. Also, they don't fly any "business routes" outside of MIA-JAX and SJU-POS, so going "all jet" is not much of a selling point.

I was just in SJU and the f/a said we were on a ATR-42 but I thought it was a 72. But to get to the point, what is the need for the Rj's? Our flight was only supposed to be 30minutes, but was like 22, I can't imagine what it would be like in an Rj. Isn't it cheaper to have the ATR's too. Plus the fight was one of 6 to that destination but was empty. We had equipment issues so b/c every one who was supposed to be on the later flight had checked in they combined us with the earlier flight and it was still half empty.

The Bahamas is not in the Caribbean. Though RDU-NAS is also being operated by RJs.

Aside from what is mentioned above, American Eagle Airlines doesn't have any crews based in the Caribbean. Flying RJs would require crews and aircraft coming down from other bases (what is even the closest MQ base.... Washington?).
