My dad emailed me this morning with a question: he wants to know, on an average weekday, roughly how many commercial flights operate within US airspace? He's including everything from commuters to international flights, passenger and cargo. Any thoughts?

If you go to "more choices", and click on "airport traffic" and then "view all traffic" you will see all the airborne commercial flights over North America. It also tells you the number at the bottom of the map.
Hope this helps!
us Air Traffic Controllers have a good record, we haven't left one up there yet !!

During the middle of the day, there are a few thousand airborne at any one time. I would say that the number has to get well over 10,000 per day. That may be conservative, but I'm not doing the math at the moment.
