AIRLINERS.NET CREW PHOTO SCREENER
Wow, thats bad news! It was one of the world's best viewing areas and I have great memories from there. First time I went there was in 1988 and it was a real eye opener, man that's really bad news!
I did'nt know the T2 deck was closed, I guess thats why there are'nt many pics from that location.
So there wont be any more viewing areas in FRA Main?
I dont know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everyone

Well sadly thats the way things are these days, I live in Melbourne and didn't even know our viewing deck has been closed for months until someone mentioned it on a.net, and said it was closed indefinitely for security reasons.
But to see FRA's deck close will be very sad, I have great memories running around on it as a 7 year old...
We remind passengers all flights are non smoking, if you are caught smoking you will be asked to sit outside on the wing

This came up on another board a month or so ago and the concensus was that the T2 deck will be reopened during the closure of the T1 facility which will reopen once work has been completed, although AA were a bit concerned as they use T2.

Actually, the observation deck is built around (and partially on top of) one of Lufthansa's lounges (I think it's a Senator Lounge, but I'm not sure), so the building and/or expansion there will - obviously - at least change the observation deck.
I certainly hope that this will only be a temporary measure - I'll be moving to Frankfurt next month, and I'd be annoyed if I only had June to August to actually visit the deck...
Seeing the fact that FRA is, like other airports, desperately trying to get more people to adopt a positive attitude towards it (and towards its planned expansion), I really see this as a very bad move: they'll only manage to anger those that, so far, have a positive attitude towards the airport...
Let's keep our fingers crossed that this is a temporary measure...

And where can the spotter's go to take photos when it's the terrace closed?
I mean usually i go there because its simplier without car but i know there is a place opposite the terminal but it can be reach without car?

To take photos there will not be many places left at FRA.
Actually you still can take photos at the Rwy 18 (take off shots) and landing if rwy 07 is in operacion.
With 25 rwy in operacion you can shoot in the morning landing shots next to the Berlin Memorial (C-47 & C-54) but that´s about it.
However the situation will become worse when you have no car there, it is almost impossible to reach the spot on runway 18 without a car, you have to walk at least for one hour (oneway). I can also not imagine to spend a whole day on the Autobahn spot only, you can reach it without a car in 25 minutes but it is not possible to buy drinks and food there and there are no toilettes.
It would be no problem for me when they close the T1 terrace but reopen the T2 terrace again, there is a large varity of different carriers instead of only LH and sometimes a TG or a SK plane in between on T1.
By the way: Rumor has it that LH is building a new terminal at FRA, exclusive for First Class passengers and frequent flyers with Senator status. Do they really build a completly new terminal or do they only expand their current lounge facilities (on the current observation deck on T1)?

It's no rumour. This new terminal for F class pax will be build between T1 and the LH office buildings. Right now there is a parking lot for LH crews.
What I heard is that they will bring the pax by car to the gates (not 100 % sure about this info).

Correction: You can reach the spotter point at A5 quite easily by train (S-Bahn) plus a few minutes walking!! Of course by car is much more comfortable since you have quite some parking space there across the bridge at the US facilities!

Andreas, or anyone else from Frankfurt - what's the best S-Bahn station for that point at the A5? As I've mentioned above, I'll be moving to Frankfurt next month - so I'll probably be hanging out there occasionally...

AS said above, the S-Bahn station is Zeppelinheim. I think there is also a bus from the airport. Check out RMV.de for local transport connex.
It really makes things easier at FRA airport when you have a car as both locations at the runways are brilliant to reach by car with parking space right there.
