Does anyone know whether the overhead bins in the EMB 170 family can hold rollaboard suitcases like standard overhead bins, or is it still necessary to check these suitcases planeside (like on the ERJ and CRJ)?

Hi there

The EMB-170 bins are good lengthwise, and they have enough height to store most items, but they are VERY shallow- they barely go back enough to fit a duffel bag. If your bag is deep, then you might have to gate check it.
