I have searched the forums but found no mention of this. Flew FRA-LHR in a 320 the other day. Talked to the pilots after landing. They said BA was getting the 321 next month to replace the 757. I mentioned that the range was less but the pilots said they don't use the 757 to cross the pond anyway so that was a moot point in this case.
And now I'll wait for the flames from everyone who already knew all about this I had no idea...

Weren't British Meditarranean Airways (BA) supposed to be operating an all A321 operator by 2003. They currently operate 3 A320s and 2 A321s (with 1 or 2 on order). Can anyone shed any light on this matter?

A321s for BA seem to get discussed in the threads regarding BAs 737s. Apart from the 10 A321s on order also 3 A319s and 3 A320s, 16 Airbuses in all. Given that 34 737s (5 733s, 19 734s and 10 735s) still with BA, plus the 13 757s and handful of 767s utilised on shorthaul, BA will have to convert some of those options to replace all those aircraft. Also the 10 BCal ordered A320s could be included in any replacement order given that they are CFM powered as opposed to the BA ordered aircraft powered by IAE engines. In another thread it was suggested a BA order could be announced at Farnborough, maybe to take the gloss of 7E7 launch orders. As for BA having so many A320 family options, when the original order was made (39 A319s and 20 A320s) it was intended that Deutsche BA and Air Liberte would be re-equipped with Airbuses too. Both carriers of course are no longer part of the BA family.
Are the A321s a definite 757 replacement? Persistent rumours on here that A319s are going to Gatwick. If that is so would suggest that perhaps some will be displaced from LHR by the arrival of the A321s to operate alongside the 737s. Would guess the 735s would leave the fleet as they were leased for the short-term for BA Regional initially before moving to LGW when the Avro RJs moved North to BHX and MAN.
As always with BA I'll wait until it happens before I believe it (Like the 773 order that has still to materialise )
