I know, that they planned to replace them since 2001. But they are still flying. Anyone knows?

I flew on HS-TME back in February from BKK to ZRH and it was a nice flight. I asked the flight attendant for permission to visit the cockpit.
I could visit the cockpit and meet the 4 person strong crew. I asked about the replacement, but they just laughed and said, they will be flying the MD-11 for the next 10 years. Nobody knows.

Will they convert them to freighters for their own use when they are retired from passenger use?

I have not heard any concrete information about the replacement here in Thailand. There were some news that their new 3 A345s are to be used on very long haul routes such as JFK or ORD or SFO while 5 A346s will serve the secondary routes such as Vienna or Oslo or AMS or Moscow. These are all new destinations. No new a/c order has been announced. Therefore, there should not be any replacement of any present aircrafts. TG is in shortage of aircraft for its expansion.
