Was there any commercial operations before the US invasion in Iraq? Also already $50 Billion has been spent in Iraq was any of this spent on aircraft, if not, what a waste of money?

I believe BA had service into Baghdad. Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's correct. I'm sorry I have no solid answer for you.

After the Gulf War, not a single airline operated for some time, but then RJ started flights from Amman to Baghdad.

I think Iraq Airways operated flights between Baghdad, Basra and Mosul.

I believe Scandinavians LCC carrier Snowflake won the rights to fly into Basra, but as the situation is at the moment. They dont wanna do that right now. i think LOT was one of the other one to get a slot at Basra.

Can anyone confirm this?

From memory I do remember BA serving Baghdad, but at the start of the first Gulf war a BA 747 was seized. Understandable since then I think they have been reluctant to restart operations into Iraq.

From speaking to a friend of mine who was in the more recent war I was told that AF carried a lot of troops from Iraq back home.

The only current commercial services I am aware of are with DHL. There could be more but this is all I know of at the minute.
