I have noticed that in the last few years, there haven't been very many new airlines springing up at MIA. Which airlines would you like to see start up a new MIA route?

I'd like to see:

BMI, Spanair.

and the return of Finnair and Turkish.

Finnair is supossed to come back to MIA this summer if I'm not mistaken, and not just for the season.

Qantas (W/o a U) alreade codeshares with AA to LAX, and from there it's a Qantas plane, a 744 if I'm not mistaken.

I'd like to see Aerorepublica come into MIA. Apparently they already have the rights to MIA and MCO but are still waiting to commence the service.

I mostly would like to see more Asian carriers into MIA, but I really doubt it because the Asian population in MIA is close to 0, and I don't think Asian leisure travelers will go as far as MIA for a tropical vacation.

I'd like to see ASA fly into MIA from EYW:

ATL - EYW - MIA - EYW - ATL (something like that on the CR7)

Also Aer Lingus to Ireland would be nice to see.

I'd like to see Edelweiss Air A332 in MIA, they used to fly ZRH to Cancun Via Orlando, but they no longer land in the US.

The US-American immigration process is really anoying, as people who are just in transfer to mexico need to fully immigrate to the US

Finair flys to MIA right now MD-11 twice a week. I would like to Aer Lugus. JAL and Qantas. Do do codeshare with AA to LAX that is why there is a Qantas sign Near one of the AA check in counters. Also BMI and South African to come back and Jet Blue would be great. Also More Delta flights to other places besides for THL CVG and ATL maybe SLC,JFK,LAX,LGW,CDG! And Emirites!

I would love to see ZE although they cannot fly from MEX and maybe from MTY and CUN either. Perhaps they could do GDL-MIA; does anybody know how many Mexican carriers do GDL-MIA at the moment?

Next flights: MEX-GRU (AM 77E), GRU-GIG (JJ A320), SDU-CGH (G3 73H), GRU-MEX (JJ A332).

I would love to see more flights from any other airlines thats not American. Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike AA and I know that MIA is one of AA's hubs, but the variety has gone out the window ever since AA became big at MIA. I would love to see another US airline make it big at MIA. More flights from IBeria would be nice. There is just too many silver birds in Miami skies. I miss the days of Eastern and Pan Am and all those exotic South/ Central American Carriers. Remember Ecuatoriana's Liveries??? That was a sight to see.

Flymia,

Yeah the Qantas counter is there just for show. They codeshare on a 763 from AA.

Mark777300,

Well I can't get enough of those silver A300s and T7s at MIA! But I'm kinda biased... Big grin

I know QF has a codeshare with AA into MIA, but it'd be nice to see a beautiful QF 744 departing 9L, over Lejeune, right behind the AF, BA, VS 744s, and the IB 742. BD is another livery I'd love to see at MIA, something to the effect of MAN-MIA, or LHR/LGW-MIA (or both MAN and LON), there are Dozens of British Tourists, and with 4 daily non-stops to London (VS, BA (2), and AA) which are almost always overbooked! BD would make a good profit in MIA.

I agree with Mark777300, AA has a huge monopoly on MIA.

And jetBlue has been looking into MIA for a while, from what I've heard. Just like they picked up on LGA.

Yea and in the winter it is 5 daily flights 2 747-400 2 777 AA and a 747-400 or A340-300 on VS. I think there is room for a cheaper airline like BD or maybe another BA or VS flight or make the second daily AA flight year round with a 767. I would love to see a QF too. Also what about Emirites coming in one day and SAS. Wonder if AF will use A380 in MIA. I would like to see some more Iberia flights but that never going to happen. Also JAL would be great. What about an Aerofolt 777!

MIA should really get going on the Asian network and JET BLUE to stop the American Domination of AA to JFK. But really get Aer Lingus and Edelweiss (swiss charter) to come in on their A330's.

Qantas to Miami would be awesome.... SYD-LAX-MIA on a 744 would be a great trip!
Much rather enjoy flying QF across the USA rather than the likes of AA, UA etc. - the service differences are miles apart!

To all of you that bash AA @ MIA,

AA has invested tons of money into rennovating MIA so IMHO they have all the rights to have their little monopoly, as some of you refer to it. AA is not the only carrier in MIA, although the biggest, so there definitely is not a monopoly, basic business knowledge. AA is the biggest carrier and as mentioned some lines before, the biggest investor in MIA.

but the variety has gone out the window ever since AA became big at MIA.

That has more to do with the fact that airlines such as AeroPeru, Faucett, Viasa, and Ecuatoriana went bankrupt and less to do with AA. Every major international Latin American airline, from Aeropostal to Varig, serves Miami. What more variety do you want?

Re: Qantas

Forget it. Never happening.

Re: SAS

Never rule out SAS. They are definitley an airline that would not surprise me to come to MIA in the future.

Re: Finnair

They have made MIA a permanent seasonal destination after a very popular winter 04 run. Service will operate at increased frequency, 3x a week, next winter. There are rumours it will go year-round and operate in summer 05. We'll see.

Realisticlly, the following airlines could make a popular go at MIA:

AeroRepublica: They are tentatively planning an MIA launch later this or in early 2005, with service to Barranquilla and Medellin.

Kenya Airways: Look for a Kenya Airways launch around March/April 2005. It looks like it definitley is going to happen. Routing will be NBO-AMS-MIA.

bmi british midland: MIA was, literally, this close to landing bmi this summer, and then Air Canada had a long-haul aircraft shortage and sent bmi on YYZ-MAN. Good chance in the future.

Aer Lingus: Aer Lingus is all ready to launch MIA, they just can't, because the US-Ireland bilatterals won't allow it, and with no budge on the 50/50 rule, they are not changing.

Aerolineas de Sur: This is AR's new Chilean subsidiary. MIA is, of course, in the plans.

jetBlue: Neelman himself has publicly mentioned they are looking at it. I think there is a good shot it will be launch sooner than most people would think.

Emirates: Many people may disagree, but if Emirates is for real about thier agressive expansion stragedy, MIA will fit right into thier plan. It would definitley be one of the later US destinations added, but the market exists for 3-4 weekly flights, especially with the Dubai hub connections available.

South African Airways: A return of SAA would not surprise me in the future. Sadly, it looks like SAA will move ATL service to IAD, and not MIA. I wouldn't rule them out, but I wouldn't hold my breathe.

Independence Air: Very likely for a launch this winter.

Virgin USA: Almost definitley coming to Miami when they launch.

Aeroflot IL-96-300s
South African A340-600s (but also B747-400s)

there was news about a SAS service to MIA but then came sept 11 and all those future plans were put on hold. LOT were looking to start service in 2001 but again came 9/11 and it didn't happen. Back then Emirates was also looking at a possible MIA service.

The problems with Miami besides the AA monopoly (yes monopoly) is that one or two new airlines start service every year, they stop and don't come again as has been the case with Turkish, Air Transat, European Air Charter and Monarch. The dominance of AA prevents many smaller airlines from Latin America, and expecially from the Caribbean to compete with AA. We do get the major national carriers of every country in latin america (except for Pluna of Uruguay) but these have been reduced to about half in recent years because many airlines have folded, and others have been taken over/replaced by alliances such as Grupo Taca and LAN.

I definitely can relate to what Mark777300 is saying. Miami steadily started losing variety ever since AA's expansion a few years after Pan Am and Eastern left the scene. Besides that, other airlines got their country's category downgraded by the FAA and coudlnt fly here while other airlines just simply folded. MIA was easily the best airport for variety in this side of the Atlantic. It used to be a paradise for aviation enthusiasts.
