Yes it's true, the incident happened at 4:00am local time on runway 13L, the plane overrun and rested 150mts away from the end of the runway. Fortunately the crew was not severly injured. The authorities had to close the runway but there was no major delays because an efficent use of runway 13L.

Wow that's obviously a write off. They just acquired that DC-10 this year I think.

I have heard that it happened on landing, the brakes did not work and the plane overrun. I tried to get there to take some pictures but unfortunately police did not let me get closer enough.

The landing airplane on runway 13L overshot approximately 400ft beyond the threshold of runway 31R on the centerline, It lost all its landing gear, number 1 and 3 engines and part of the elevators after crossing accross a large deep drainage ditch that is perpendicular and approximately 150 ft from runway 31R threshold, then through the localizer antenna for runway 13L leaving the ILS for this approach runway out of service.

The damage to the bottom of the fuselage of the aircraft is pretty severe, the engine pylons for number 1 and 3 engine were ripped off the wing with structural damage showing in the wing slats and trailing edge devices (flaps), also the elvators are partially ripped off.

I consider this airplane a total loss or a write off.

Anyone know who the previous operator(s) of this DC-10 were?

This is probably an old JAL DC-10. I remember they sold a few.

Challenge Air Cargo has a few ex JAL DC-10-40s. Not this airline.

Anyone know much more about Centurion? A Google search didn't turn up a web address.
