Runway Closure At Hamburg-Luebeck

Just been reading the news on the Ryanair website, it seems that they've recently announced that they can't operate into Luebeck for the time being. The runway requires essential maintenance and apparently there's a court injunction stopping it, meaning it's closed until the injunction is overturned.

Anyone have any ideas on why this might be?

Cheers
Ben

P.S. Sorry if it's been discussed before, I ran a search but found nothing...

Yes I read that as well on Ryanair's website. Apparently they fly to HAM instead of LBC.

The German version is quite a challenge to read...

Ndebele, you call that a "challenge to read"???

They have got to be kidding - the parts that don't include some strange characters can really only be read by generously interpreting - it seems they used Babelfish (or worse) to translate that...

Since they mention it in the release - anybody know how "cooperative" they'll be if someone wants to cancel or rebook? I remember reading one or two weeks ago that FR changed from one airport to another in the UK and, if I recall correctly, essentially offered nothing except a rebooking to the new airport.

Frank

That is the most pathetic German I have ever seen in my life. It looks like a mix of Russian, German, and idiocracy.

I would't be surprised if Ryan Air got the message from Hamburg in GERMAN but missunderstood it. It probably read "Maintenance complete - no need to close the runway!" And then they cancel all their flights Smile/happy/getting dizzy

It took me a while to figure out that "autobahn" obviously means runway?!

Yupp, SailorOrion, that "autobahn" is the runway... admittedly, we've got quite a few fast drivers on the autobahn's here in this country, but I still tend to think that planes are better off on a runway... Big grin

But, seriously, anyone who puts out a passenger notice with a headline like...

Dringende Informationen füsagiere . Alle Flü/nach Flughafen Lü Von Samstag, den 1. Mai 2004 zu Donnerstag, den 6. Mai 2004

... really should hire outside help!!! It's quite obvious that they have some problem with our extra letters (Umlaute), because whenever they use a word with an ü, ö or ä in it, they get "ü" (or other strange characters) in there and some following letters disappear completely.

Has anyone around here booked one of those flights? I'd really be interested in seeing that eMail that they promised to send out - to see if it's as bad as this.

Regards,
Frank
