Why has Southwest not started flights to Canada and Mexico? Does anyone think Southwest and Westjet might start a codeshare or alliance.

WN's business model is USA travel, short hops and quick turnover. They are the best and are making tons of money. Why bother with going over the border?

I agree with NIKV69.

Other airlines are trying to do both international and domestic and have all different kinds of a/c in their fleet. WN has one a/c in their fleet (737) and is in the 48 states. This means that a/c are easily accessible if one is needed and doesn't take 3 days (parts, like the 777 in yellowkife) to get to them. WN has it made, AIRLINE makes it look like they have delay after delay when really thats only 5 flights out of the 100's they have daily.

Thanks UA777222, yes WN doesn't need that service they continue to make tons of money in the US.

BTW, I just booked UA from JFK-RAP. If you can tell me anything about that route I would appreciate it. Haven't flown you guys since June 01 when I used you to go JFK-GRU. I enjoyed the flight but Varig's deal are much better so I use them now.

Anything UA is a blast. I think this flight will be like every other UA flight. Friendly crew, fast service, great a/c, and CH 9!!!!!!!(their movie selection however is bad but then again I'm looking out the window not and not the screen!)

International service is highly unlikely with Southwest for the near future. It's not that their equipment can't handle it, the hassles of dealing with international formalities can really slow down the flights and delay those quick turnarounds. Southwest keeps their planes flying since they're not making money sitting on the tarmac, hence the high frequencies and quick turnarounds. Besides, they are doing very well with what they're doing right now and they're now going into a hub, PHL, which might be a sign of what they're going to do next.
