ILFC chairman and CEO Steven Udvar-Hazy says that they are looking at
the 7E7 but they need more information from Boeing before considering
ordering it. He's also very bullish about the aviation industry
recovering.

Found it a very interesting read.

I just found out something interesting about the 7E7

projected empty weight of a 7E7 = 242,000-252,000lbs
empty weight of an A306 = 198,000lbs
empty weight of a 763 = 179,000lbs

although i realise the 7E7 domestic, which is the only fair comparison to the A306, will undoubtly weigh less than 242,000 and will be more efficient than a older generation aircraft. but you have to wonder about the light weight claim.

I can see the 763 thing, but won't the 7E7 (non-SR) have far more range than the A306, and thus need a stronger structure?

Boeing should be able to sell gazillions of this plane, it fills a gaping hole in the market as the 767 and A300 aren't really a great long term investment if you're buying new planes - both are at the end of their production life. Airbus are preoccupied with the A380, and a light twin widebody with 21st century technology would put Boeing back on the map.

What's the hold up?

Well, I'm on a Pocket PC so I cannot check any of my references, so I'm going on memory...

1. Is that the empty weight of a 763 or 763Er? How does t is compare to the empty weight of the A333/A332?

The 7e7-8/9 must have a higher MTOw to carry enough fuel to fly 8500nm flights, and carry a higher fraction of cargo. This means a reinforced structure relative to the 763 and A306. but the only relevant competition is the A332 and A333, again i cannot check those #s.

dfw

The 763 179,000 was an ER
The 764 weighs 224,000

The A300 is exactly the same size as the baseline 7E7 which is why i chose the A300

The A333 isnt really competition for now until they stretch it.

The A332 = 262,000lbs
The A333 = 270,000lbs

The SR version will undoubtly weigh less, i reckon about 10t or 22,000lbs but that is still more than an A300 and is about the same as a 764.

I was just pointing out that the 7E7's weight was not revolutionary.

Watched BBC´s Fast Track and there was a notice about 7E7, and they said it´s smaller(!!) than 767-300!!
Is that true?

I'd agree with DfwRevolution that comparing the 7E7 (8500 nm range) to the A300-600 (4000 nm range) is somewhat apples-to-oranges. Any comparison will be a little misleading, since no aircraft with the 7E7's payload-range capability currently exists in the 200-250 seat segment. That said, here are some other OEWs:

767-400ER: 227,400 lbs. (5645 nm range)
A330-200: 265,700 lbs. (6650 nm range)
A330-300: 271,000 lbs. (5600 nm range)
777-200A: 298,900 lbs. (5210 nm range)

Actually, the operating empty weight of a 767-300ER with GE engines is.........200,200 lbs.

A 767-200ER is 187,300 lbs.

Wingspan on A300... 147 ft
7e7 ..................... 193 ft

not exactly the same size  Smile

Cheers

Unfortunately airlines are not certified to sit pax on the wing

I fully aknowledged the A300 was designed for short haul earlier before everyone starts getting their knickers in a twist

ILFC will order the 7E7 when:
1. A customer wishes to lease new 7E7's, and/or
2. 7E7 orders roll in which will indicate varied & strong demand in which case ILFC may order the 7E7 without a customer initially.

Panam, TWA, Ansett, Eastern.......AC next? Might be good for Canada.

Would be interesting to know how many of the 400 aircraft that ILFC have on order are Airbus A330's. Anyone know ?

Pretty high count of A330's, may have something to do with their comments. I wouldn't want to be trying to sell A330's in a few years time if Boeing manages to reach the operational numbers projected.
