Press Release

With the addition of three new Boeing aircraft in August, Southwest (NYSE: LUV) will add new daily nonstop service each way between the following cities beginning August 8, 2004:

* One flight between Las Vegas and Islip (Long Island's
MacArthur Airport)
* One flight between Las Vegas and Cleveland
* One flight between Phoenix and Cleveland

"Southwest is simply meeting the demand for service between all of these cities," said Joyce Rogge, senior vice president of marketing for Southwest. "We continue to listen to what our Customers want, and over the last several years, we have moved quickly to meet those needs. They asked for a smoother airport experience -- we added automated boarding passes, advance checkin via southwest.com, and earlier checkin availability. They asked for service to more cities -- we will begin service to Philadelphia with one wave of 14 flights beginning on May 9 and add 14 more flights in July."

In addition, Southwest will enhance the existing nonstop service with the following new roundtrip flights, also beginning August 8:

* One between Las Vegas and Orange County (for a total of four daily)
* One between Omaha and Phoenix (for a total of three daily)
* One between Nashville and Phoenix (for a total of four daily)

I wonder if America West will continue retreating with capacity and frequency from Omaha...

With the presence that WN has here at MSY, I still think an MSY-MDW nonstop would be a perfect fit. And, from the WN personnel I talk to here at the airport, it's only a matter of time.

Nonetheless, it's good to see WN continue to grow. And the July addition of PHL to our WN nonstops will be a big boost.

I'm curious as to why WN doesn't fly MDW-SAT. UA and AA fly out of ORD, and unless there is a system-wide fare sale, tickets are a little pricey.

AAJaxflyer.

Dont know if you know or not. But America West is scheduled to go all Express RJs to OMA in July or so when the last 737-200s are parked.

I fly that route several times year, and since I terminated my employment with HP to go back to college in Kansas, Southwest will be getting my business.(Nothing against HP, I dont like RJ's)

Wow, WN expanding at CLE. I never thought I'd see the day. If memory serves me correctly, both these routes were Sat. only flights for some time, but it's good to see them as daily flights.

ISP-LAS is great news! My cousin flew to LAS twice (once last year and once this year). First time they dove all the way to JFK for a direct flight to LAS, they said the traffic was a nightmare. The second time they took a Southwest flight from ISP to LAS, (they live 20 minutes from ISP) but had to stop at BWI. They wanted a direct flight so they didn't like that to much either.

For all the PVD fans, we are finally getting our nonstop to LAS on Sept 13. Albeit Sat-only. This is in addition to the return of the Sat-only FLL starting then, as well. However with an average of 283 pax/day (3rdQ-2003) I can't see how they aren't starting us off with a daily, and giving ISP the weekend-only, given they only averaged 81. It's cool tho, I'm still excited.

Are you still anything else about more news with WN? It is good to hear for more new nonstop from ISP-LAS and but, why did not fly from ISP-PHX flight either. Which one is could not do it for them.

Oh yes, ISP-LAS non-stop is great news! I have to tell you. I live 5 minutes from ISP and though I love CO's service it still isn't non-stop!

When is WN going to come to MSP? I think they tried it up here many years ago, but they were run out by NW, I think that they should give it another shot being the change in public opinion of LCC.

Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing! It's a bonus if you can fly the plane again!!

WN has run an occasional charter into MSP, but has never had regular scheduled service there for NW to run us out...

In regards to MDW-MSY and MDW-SAT, I had heard that they were waiting for the new terminal to finish before adding new flights out of MDW. Now that it is finished anything is possible.

MDW-MSY is a no brainer. Roughly 900 pax/day between Chicago and New Orleans, with all the current service going to/from O'Hare. A couple of Midway nonstops would go out full year round without question. Hell if WN can fly MSY-IND and MSY-JAX they can fly MSY-MDW! If they don't add it, ATA will. It's just a matter of time.

Southwest is already doing well with the service they offer between MSY-MDW. If you look at the one stop service between MSY-MDW you will see that these flights are providing additional frequencies to cites like BNA, BHM, HOU and IND. It is possible that MSY could not support all those flight to the cities I just mentioned if those planes were not half full of through Customers on the way to MDW. Off the 900 a day you mentioned, how many are flying UA or AA to catch a flight to somewhere else. Of course its always nice to fly non-stop but sometimes you have to stop along the way to drop and pick people up to make the route successful.

Jeffinbwi, I see what you are saying, so that's why no more than one or two nonstops are needed in the market. But we need to have some nonstop service. There are several one stop flights per day that is true, but the difference between one stop and nonstop is huge in the consumers eyes. United and American don't exactly offer "stellar" service between the cities in terms of flights/capacity. A nonstop or two to Midway is not unrealistic.

Some other flights added, but not announced besides the Saturday onlyt PVD-LAS, PVD-FLL (again), PVD-MCO (5th frequency) are:

PHL-SAN (sat. only)
PHL-OAK (sat. only)

I almost fell off my chair to see the new PVD flights (albeit Sat. only) and it looks like the PHL expansion continues as well...

25 ChiGB1973 : Hopefully, TZ will fill an MSY-MDW void with the 717s. Unfortunately, we can't get them overnight. M
26 Boeing757/767 : Also, BDL gets an extra Saturday-only flight to LAS.
27 Post contains images NIKV69 : You got to love WN! $99 each way from ISP to LAS! Now that is what I call a good fare! Will be using that flight quite a bit!
28 ScottysAir : PVD757, Where did you get those information about PHL will flying with Sat. only nonstop to SAN & OAK? How did you know about them?
29 ScottysAir : Anyone want to know about more cities on October with PHL-SAN & OAK?
30 MAH4546 : The new PHL-SAN/OAK flights are now up for booking. WN 1221 OAK 0800-1630 PHL Sa WN 1429 PHL 1700-2025 OAK Sa WN 969 PHL 1640-1945 SAN Sa WN 1484 SAN
31 Johnboy : WN has a habit of "dipping their toes in the water" with these Saturday only flights, but these seem like fairly large markets (esp. OAK - PHL) NOT to
32 AirframeAS : WN doing scheduled service to/from MSP?? Very fat chance of that happening. Too many NW loyalists living in MSP. The majority of the MSP residents thi
33 MSP2PHX : I for one would love to see WN fly in and out of MSP, I fly to PHX many times a year, always on HP. It would be kind of nice to try WN once in a while
34 Post contains images 7E72004 : I think if PHL is a success you will see Southwest in places you never would have thought of
35 Flynavy : I've wondered why WN hasn't started service to BDL or PVD from ORF, to compete with FL's nonstops to BOS from PHF. Current non-stops out of ORF on WN
36 ScottysAir : Hey MAH4546, Can you anyone tell me when is start nonstop from PHL-OAK/SAN? Is that goes on October 2004? I know about US Airways has no nonstop from
37 Usairways85 : The PHL-OAK/SAN flts were loaded in the schedules, that's at least how i found out about them. They both start on Sept 18th.
38 AirframeAS : I've wondered why WN hasn't started service to BDL or PVD from ORF... Umm WN currently flies to BDL and PVD...Just an FYI.
39 PVD757 : I think he meant nonstop between PVD/BDL and ORF... There is a sizeable market there, but perhaps better suited for a smaller sized aircraft than WN's
40 L-188 : When will they announce service to Anchorage? When when when? We need it.
41 ScottysAir : Usairways85, Thanks for the date begin new nonstop from PHL-SAN & OAK, too. Also, I am still hope how is they was doing and might will get daily fligh
