Fox News is currently reporting that UAL flight 200,currently enroute from LAX to IAD, is being tracked/escorted by the U.S. Government (Air Force, NORAD, FBI, etc.) due to "suspicious activity" or a tip about a possible danger aboard the aircraft. Obviously, since this is post-9/11 and the aircraft is heading to Washington, D.C., security and concern is paramount. The aircraft is scheduled to land in less than an hour. I will update this topic as more information comes in from the news, as well as from a friend who works for UAL at Dulles.

All aircraft ought to be treated the same. You believe that an A-320 is nothing compared to a heavy? 9/11 will not happen again the way it was executed. God forbid, but if there is another attack with an aircraft, it will occur with an aircraft that is carrying bio. agents or some sort of warhead, not an aircraft going into a building! Therefore, ALL suspicious aircraft should be watched just as closely as a heavy!

There was a thread started on this subject earlier today which was deleted. It has also been on cnn today. Apparently this particular flight has been watched closely by TSA the last few weeks.Particular emphasis was paid in double mchecking the crews IDs. The cockpit crew was even shadowed when they were doing their pre flight checks etc.Their manuals were gone through by TSA. There was extra security at LAX prior to departure. On CNN today a pilot was quoted as saying he had never seen such security in his 25 years of flying. All of this was on CNN a number of times today.

By all means I'm not saying it shouldn't be watched. But what I am saying is that we shouldn't get people all worked up over it. Especially without any outside sources (from what I've seen) talking about it either.

bottom line: if this flight was truly threatened, United would force the flight to land, case closed. Lovely media blitz for nada.

Cancidas,
although this is not a discussion on news sources, why should Fox's credibility be questioned, as opposed to CNN, MSNBC, BBC, or Aljazeera (very reliable and non-biased, right)?

Cancidas,
furthermore, what political, moral, or economic gain would Fox achieve by falsifying this report??? This questioned MUST be asnwered in order to validate your contention that Fox is not reliable. By the way, I am not a hardcore fan of Fox, or ANY news source for that matter. I just happened to have Fox on.

They have been going on about this all day. I am sure a lot of us are aware that some flts go through super security. Some daily. I am surprised it is getting as much attention as BA 222/223.

Does anyone know what happened? It was due into DC 45 minutes ago. It is not on our local news, and isn't searchable on the Fox news website or CNN website.

Thanks UA777222 for finding the mention on their site. I searched using "United" and "Dulles" and nothing came up. It still seems that details (or a conclusion) are absent.

Speaking of strange things regarding LAX, yesterday the SQ A340-500 flight from SIN was escorted in by an F-16. Apparantly there was a hijack signal being sent out. Thankfully it turned out to be a false alarm.

I don't know what's scarier. The fact that this plane is on the terrorist watch list, or the news blurb underneath the UA one on Ua777222's link...where the TSA is teaching pilots how to shoot guns.
