RESTORED DELTA AIR LINES DC-3 VISITS TUCSON MAY 14

Delta Air Lines is sending a fully restored Douglas DC-3 to select cities as part of their 75th Anniversary celebration. The airplane will be in Tucson on Friday, May 14, parked at the Executive Terminal, 7081 S. Plumer Avenue, at the base of the air traffic control tower from about 10:35 a.m. until 1:35 p.m.
The plane is being sponsored by Delta Air Transportation Heritage Museum and is one of the original commercial passenger planes flown by Delta Air Lines.
In its heyday the Douglas DC-3 could land anywhere with just 3,000 feet of runway, carrying 21 passengers and accounting for more than 80 percent of all U.S. airliners in 1941. Approximately 11,000 were built worldwide before and during World War II. Affectionately termed the “Gooney Bird” by Army pilots, the Douglas DC-3 was revolutionary in its day. For the first time, passengers could get up and move around in the cabin and didn't need earplugs, although it wasn't pressurized.
The airplane goes on tour May 11 in Atlanta and ends on May 29 in Salt Lake City. From Tucson the DC-3 continues to Phoenix.

There is actually a schedule of all of the destinations of the DC-3 on the Delta Air Transport History Museum website. Not sure if this is an employees only thing, but they will take donations from anyone.  Smile However, now I know when I can expect to see her here in CAE, so I have something to look forward to.

Would either of you happen to know if the DC-3 will be flying into southern California on this trip? Any planned stops in San Diego?

Well...the DC3 came to FLL on the 28th and MIA on the 29th and both of those were school days and play rehersal days...UGH! Hopefully I'll see it in ATL one day! Is the DC3 only going to be used this year, or will they use it for special events from now on?

I did not see you when N707JT took off Flyboyaz. Were you by the cargo buildings. I truly thought I was alone.

I shall find a way to see the Delta DC-3. Rather easy for me as I work across the street.

Never mind, I was alone. You must have been inside the terminal. I really need to pay a vist to the terminal soon.
