Has anyone seen the construction.. It is right next to terminal 4 and will be one of the highest towers in west London.
Its good that they are getting rid of the old one which is right in the central area..
Does anyone know when it is going to be completed and how high it will be?

Actually, from what i have heard, it would be to the west of T3 (I.e. between T3 and T5). It would have a link from T3 to it. Also what i heard was that the main part (the main tower bit, not the actual control area), was going to be assembled off site and then over a one night period was going to be taken to the site and put up, so basically, you go spotting at LHR one day and there's no tower there, then the next day there's a huge tower there. I think the tower was supposed to be going vertical in Fall 2004 but won't open until Spring 2006.

It will be 97m high. I think, check out the airliner world article about it. Its going to be an amazing structure. And as for your mention of the 'old tower' it is superb inside with all the latest features and still the best view of the airport apart from the sky. The main reason I believe for it being changed is because some of T5s buildings will obstruct the view of the ATCs seeing what aircraft are where in the T5 concourses. This is what I think the reason is, feel free to correct me!

The top part of the new control tower is being assembled by T4, behind the Royal Suite and will be moved across to T3 when the site is ready.
You can see the tower being constructed at the moment from the southern perimeter road and you can also see it from the top of car park 2.
I have seen an artists impression when I had a visit up the current tower last summer. It was planned to be higher than it's going to be, but the airport would be in Low Vis Proceedures for most of the year as it would have been too high and would have been in cloud most of the time !!!.
