Do you know what others destinations will cover the 773???.

FLYSSC:

By the way, just asking (out of topic). Where do you live? I will be on Paris this summer and I would like to know where could I take pictures of CDG airport and also at Orly. And if you had the schedule of the AF 773 I will appreciate it. Perhaps I could take the aircraft Big grin. And also if you could help me into France. Since this is the first time I will travel alone. Thanks!!!

Best Regards!!! Eduardo Lepe.

FLYSSC,

Do you have any idea what exactly this link means? Does it mean that the first flight will be in 4 days or that you take delivery in 4 days? However, I do believe you took delivery of your first one no?

New York/Kennedy will be the first destination, followed by Tokyo/Narita.

Hong Kong and Singapore are likely to follow.

I donno if this topic has been discussed but what is the exact reason why AF decided to go with the 773ER and not the 346? They already operate the 343 so would not the 346 be the logical choice cos of commanality between the two? Does anyone know the real reason - no i am not asking for a A vs B bashing contest.

Bluethunder... think Commonality doesnt really apply here... she operates 777-200s, so why not B777-300s?

Already been discussed on a different thread. AF does not buy planes with RR engines and that is what the sole engine is on the A340-500/600.

Bluethunder, yes it has been discussed many times before in other threads. The reason Air France chose the 777-300ER over the A340-600 is because the Boeing has GE engines, which the Airbus doesn't have, that's the main reason. Air France Industries is focussing on only one engine manufacturer: General Electric. Boieng is offering the 777-300ER only with GE engines, it's no wonder why for the time being only Air France has it.

Air France has decided to reduce the number of fleet types, they are planning to get rid of the A340-300's in the long run, and rather operate the A330 and the B777 of both variants, 200IGW and 300ER. ETOPS restrictions are not a problem for Air France long haul network, overwater flights are transatlantic flights and flights to the DOM-TOM islands in the Pacific Ocean.
They are now getting rid of the Classic 747's which have been flying to leasure destinations. Once they are gone, the 747-400's (Air France has 13 of those) will take over the routes to leasure destinations and the brand new 777-300ER and her smaller sister the 777-200IGW, the first of which was introduced 6 years ago, will be assigned on routes to major business centers, JFK and NRT as mentioned in the above replies.

FLYSSC, thanks for the info. I appreciate. I'm looking forward to see pictures of the interiors.

Consensus opinion is that it was engine related which makes perfect sense.

American767,

Your answer to the previous question is perfectly correct. except :

Air France operates now 16 B747-400 (and not 13). Three more aircraft has been added to the fleet since july 2003. F-GITI and F-GITJ joined the fleet last summer. F-GITJ is the brand new last B744 delivered to AF only a few weeks ago ( March 31st 2004). This aircraft is the first B744 fitted with the new 2 classes configuration Buisness/Economy and has started to operate on the CDG-HAV route.
AF's B744 are :
F-GITA/B/C/D/E/F
F-GISA/B/C/D/E (ex-400Combi. Now all PAX a/c)
F-GEXA/B (ex-UTA a/c)
F-GITH/I/J. The 3 last a/c delivered.

Note that there is no F-GITG : this airplane was never delivered to AF. It was stored for a while and sold to Royal Air Maroc and now operates as CN-RGA for this airline.

AF also operates 4 B744-ER Freighters : F-GIUA/B/C/D.

FLYSSC,
I knew for a long time Air France was operating a fleet of 13 B747-400 series aircraft but I didn't know they recently added another three. It looks like now there are no more of those waiting to be delivered, except maybe in freighter version. I knew UTA had ordered 2 but did those ever wear the UTA colours or they were painted directly in Air France colours once coming out of the assembly line? They have probably never worn the UTA scheme, UTA ordered them back in the 80's when the variant was announced and by the time the two airplanes were ready for delivery UTA was already swallowed by Air France.
Will all 16 PAX 400's be reconfigured in two-class service?
