Got my May/June 2004 issue of "Airliners" in the mail today. I'm not normally one to tout individual magazine issues, but this issue is another classic for "Airliners":
1) "Invisible Airman: the Flight Dispatcher": details the origins and some of the procedural aspects of the dispatching profession.
OPNL guy, this one's for you!
2) "Republic Airlines: Does Size Matter?": last in the series of articles that included Bonanza, West Coast, Pacific, Air West, and Hughes AirWest.

You can buy it at book stores. Borders carries it here.
I also subscribe. It is about $45 for two years (12 issues).

Thanks Tom, I did not know about these issues. I worked for Pacific and on up in 1965 to now and would like to get all the back issues in this subject but the Airliner website doesn't detail back issue contents. Can I ask you to please check your copies for issue numbers and dates for all pertaining to this.
Just last night we had a thread here from someone who had never heard of Bonanza. Nice to tell a story where the employees are still around after five name changes.

M404:
The Bonanza article was in issue #66, dated Nov/Dec 2000.
The AirWest (Bonanza, West Coast, Pacific merger) article was in issue #79, dated Jan/Feb 2003.
The Hughes AirWest article was in issue #80, dated Mar/Apr 2003.
Hopefully airlinersonline will have the back issues. If not, let me know, and I'll copy them off for you.

Talking about Airliners, the last two issues have been pretty good. I really liked the B6 article and the Canadian Pacific article, just got my issue with the Republic 757 on it so I havent gotten around to reading it. Lately Airliners has been giving Airways a good run for it's money- Airways needs to shape up, what is up with their last couple of issues.

I gotta go along with Royal on this one. Airways has disappointed me quite a bit over the past few years. I've been a subscriber to both Airliners and Airways since Day 1, which I why I hang on to my Airways subscription. If I had to choose just one, it'd be Airliners by a mile.
OPNLguy, let us know what you think of the article.

Thanks a bunch. Will check with them tonight. Have been rummaging around the attic and I've got over 10 big boxes of memorabilia turning to dust dating from 1st 1957 flight. Still a turn-on.

I picked up a copy after reading the dispatcher article. I bought it mostly to give to my family who continiously ask what it is I do. I thought it was well writtien and some nice pictures of Delta's dispatch. NOw if i could only carry around a copy for everyione else who asks what i do for work....

Back when Airliners was quarterly, it was even better than is is today. Same goes for back when Airways was bimonthly. I found the quality to be much better.

Received the new issue yesterday.
My airliners subscription is about to expire....I see that if I renew for 2 years, I will get a free hardcover book....choices are B720, DC-10 or Lockheed Electra......guess which one I will take
