According to the Spanish financial newspaper, a new airline, "Vueling", will begin to offer its services the next July. They will begin with two A320 aircraft and in the first place from BCN to Paris, Palma and Brussels. More info can be found (in spanish) in the following address,
http://www.cincodias.com/articulo.html?d_date=20040514&xref=20040514cdscdsemp_3&type=Tes&anchor=cdspor

This new airline adds to the other new one which will begin its activity at the end of May, "Air Madrid".

Since Iberia is incorporating between 15 and 20 new aircraft this year and Air Plus possibly will incorporate some more B747 and B737, things are definitely moving here. Let´s wait and see!  Wink/being sarcastic
Cheers.

@DME

You can also book flights online on: http://www.vueling.com/

Sounds great! I read in a german aviation magazine, that Air Plus is looking forward to operate the B737-200. I hope, that this is a rumor!

BTW. I heared also from a new spanish airline, called "TAURO lineas aereas"- or something like that? any infos yet?

Are they trying to appeal to both Spanish and English speakers with the name? "Vuela" means "he/she/it flies" in Spanish, so Vueling seems like a Spanglish combo.

Hi!

I just saw an advertisment at TV, great! A BCN based LCC! and prizes look quite interesting... Also visited their webpage and they use a very interesting form of communication called "spanglish" hehe Big grin (english spoken by spanish people that don't know how to speak english)

I think the name is terrible but I celebrate that there is a new Barcelona-based carrier that offeres good fares. I wish the new airline a lot of success.

Speaking of which, would anyone know what the best way to get on a July Sunday from STR to MAD (no return) without paying a ridiculously high fare? The best I have seen so far is AB's STR-PMI-MAD for EUR 149 but I was wondering if I could get a more or less similar fare with non-stop service.

Next flights: MEX-GRU (AM 77E), GRU-GIG (JJ A320), SDU-CGH (G3 73H), GRU-MEX (JJ A332).

Eduardo,

I agree with you, the name is AWFULL!!!! and tacky. Another Spanish airline whose name is in Spanglish, like Air Europa. But image looks nice and hope it will work good. Why dont we have these cheap fares to Europe from MAD????
That's not fair!!!!

And why not longhaul flights from/to BCN! (except BA and DL 767's not a single widebody lands in BCN!)...  Acting devilish not my intention to start a MAD-BCN war...
you are right, we are very lucky in BCN with LCC's, and in fact, I was very surprised to see the advertisement yesterday, ANOTHER LCC in BCN!, but glad to see that is the 1st. spanish one!

Interesting point that seems to have gone unnoticed so far - JetBlue has an interest in Vueling. I believe it's a 7% shareholder.

Any chance they could service Sevilla from BCN? I am considering other options to head down to Sevilla, such as flying into BCN and then to SVQ...instead of the all too common MAD as the Spanish gateway.

easyJet i'm sure will be setting up bases in MAD and BCN in the next few months. Airport charges are still high, when these drop, easyJet will bring low cost to spain.

Great Livery on vueling- I wish them Luck.

I think the first thing this airline should do, is fire the person who thought of such an horrendous name. Big grin

Don't give them much hope but only time will tell.
