BMI Baby have annouced that they will no longer be operating the East Midlands - Barcelona route as from the 29th June.
Only a few weeks ago easyJet annouced the same news and are pulling out of the route from the 2nd June despite both airlines operating the same route side by side for over two years.
This follows the news that Ryanair transferred their "Barcelona" Girona service from BHX to EMA. Are easyJet and BMI Baby running scared?
BMI Baby are saying they have chosen to stop the route due to poor slot availability at Barcelona.
This to some extent is true as the route was operated in the evening and many independent travellers and business people do not want to arrive at these times:
EMA 19.55 ---> BCN 23.20
BCN 23.50 ---> EMA 01.10
I am wondering if easyJet are kicking themselves now as they had really nice mid-morning flight times into BCN and would no longer have the competition of BMI Baby and the route could possibly be now sustainable.

Just got the Notts evening post - I was thinking about booking a flight to Barcelona after I finish school on Friday. The times aren't that great though. Pity that another route has gone. EMA should be expanding!

The BCN route from EMA operated by Easy has had its slot transferred to ops at Dortmund or 1 of the bases in Germany. The BCN route will be brought back in the Winter so nothing really to worry about.
Rumour on the mill is a CPH and MAD route being discussed from EMA with Easy and a poss Germanwings flight to Stuttgart

BDRules,
the flight from EMA to Germany will be EMA-CGN. DTM will only see LTN as destination in the UK for the time being.
It really does look as if Germanwings and Easyjet will have a fierce fight ahead of eachother... Well we'll see. I just hope that that will bring some cheap fares to CGN again...

thats what i meant but didnt explain myself. The flight times that used to be used on the EMA - BCN route will now operate the DTM - BCN route thus EMA losing out until the winter.
