It is definitely worth the extra $40 to uprgade to Spirit Plus. Much larger and more comfortable seat plus a decent amount of food (albeit pre-packaged snacks, a wide varitey) a welcome drinks plus free drinks during the flight. Spirit economy:the service seemed to be good all around although, don't expect any IFE, at least not until the new Airbus' arrive! Just pretzels and soda
Hope this helps

I've flown them DTW-LAS, and don't have any complaints. The MD-80 was older, but relatively clean. My seat cushion has seen better days. Not really any different from a flight on one of NW's DC9, or older 320's. A business class cabin was full, we didn't get to upgrade. The box lunch that was complimentary in biz class was available for sale in coach. Nothing spectacular. No IFE, but I don't care about that. I read my book, and was fine. Flight attendants weren't overly friendly, but were efficient, kinda like NW. Both flight left on time, and arrived early. Bags were slow to arrive in LAS, quick in DTW. I'd fly them again. Like AirTran, they don't overpromise. For a good fare you get from here to there safely, not much more. That's all I care about.

A problem with the A/C can happen on any airline. I wouldn't use it solely as a reason to choose (or not to choose) an airline. I used to fly CO all the time until they fail to honor their "Confirmed Seat Guarantee" when I was a Plat Elite, and needed a seat on a sold out flight. Between that and the CO agent in FLL who called me a name in Spanish, not knowing I learned all the dirty words in high school, I decided to find another airline. The arrogant attitude at CO was a turnoff. I felt like no matter how much I spent, it wasn't enough. Companies like Spirit, Southwest and AirTran seem to value all their customers more.

well, being that FLL is my home airport and NK is my home airline, I say they are a good airline. It is basicly a carbon copy of AirTran. I have not actually flown them, but I can say that they are a very safe airline and they have a good reputation down here

I flew Spirit about one month ago, DTW-MYR, and have no complaints. The airplane was clean and the FA's were friendly. I did not have a checked bag, just a carry on, so I don't know how quick the bags would have arrived. We even left the gate early and got to MYR about 15 minutes early. No IFE, but that doesn't bother me one bit. Snack was a bag of pretzels and assorted drinks, just like any other airline. I would fly Spirit again anyday!

Im not a fan of NK, hopefully once the new airbus fleet comes online service will improve. Im going to tell you what you can expect from my experience- very crammed seating (when I stepped off that plane I felt like I had crossed the pacific and back), indifferent cabin crew (they do a beverage service and they will disappear for the rest of the flight, smiling for the crew I have flown with is like pulling teeth from a baby), the cabin is starting to show it's age. On the positive side my tickets were cheap and all my flights were on time. From 1-10 I would give spirit a 7 or a C

Hi folks. Former Spirit Employee here. I worked for NK 2 yrs. and then went to AirTran (FL). I know, seems like a lateral move or maybe 1/2 step up the ladder, but I believe FL is much better managed than NK. As for service, I flew them TPA-DTW a few months back and the flight was on time with standard service. Nothing to write home about. I must say that out of TPA they have nightmarish ATC delays to ORD.

IM a little bit concerned with an airline that has mechanics that would out of a old bread box truck that goes from airport to airport. That dose not make me fell all that great. Also if a plane breaks down in one place you have too wait for them to come from the other airport.

I've flown Spirit a few times between MCO and DTW. Must agree with most guys, not good but not bad. F/A's are well, not sure how to put this really, I guess on one flight you may find the standard of F/A's at different ends of the scales in all senses. Really pretty but aren't very good, not so pretty but are good haha
As for the aircraft, each time I flew them it was the MD80 family. Showing signs of aging but not bad. As for seats, not the most comfortable, not much leg room.
Good thing though, cheap tickets!

Well the few people I have picked up from Spirit have always been delayed . One delay they actually lied to me about and sent me to FLL airport where I waited for 3.5 hours. Since the flight was coming from LGA and only took about 3 hours I found it unforgivable to have to pay for 3 hours of parking for no reason. There was no info given to anyone about the delay, no representative to speak with at night /he was hiding in the back/ and the only way we got to speak with him eventually was to call reservations and demand a representative show his face. The mechanical delay was not compensated to the passengers and no apology was even offered. The inflight servce etc has been described to me as " Trailor Trash Air". It is what it is a low cost no frills no skills airline with poorly trained employees. Sad to say it is also my " Hometown Airline"

I am not trailer trash. I have skills. You just can't see them. I hate the saying you get what you pay for. Yet when I read our reviews it pops into my mind so often. By the way who cares if your F/A is pretty? Pretty won't save your a$$ in a decompression And yes I am PRETTY! I wish you a good flight. Hopefully you'll be on my flight so I can give a positive, fun, lasting impression. You might even be able to fenagle a second bag of pretzels from me! Wouldn't that be a treat!. Send me a message and I promise I'll find out who'll be on your flight and try and work some magic for you. Are you going to L.A.? That's my usual route. One last note ORD has been a challenge for timeliness. Then again ORD is just a plain challenge for everyone.

Have flown them many times....
Years ago they were always late. Now they are almost always on time. I did have a single delay due to mechanical in DTW where they ended up swapping the airplane and we were on our way with a 1 hr delay. Not a bad thing considering.
Go for the Spirit Plus upgrade if avail. Otherwise it is a standard MD80 pitch but for some reason the seats are not as tall as those on AA or CO or others so a little less comfy.
Generally on par with other carriers. Some flights better or worse then average. No complaints here.
Above average. While airplanes show their age the cabin was the cleanest I have seen on a jetliner of its age in a long time. Much better then CO and AA.
I will fly Spirit without hesitation and look forward to the A320s coming.
