Hi GT.

Have a look at this thread.
http://www.airliners.net/discussions/general_aviation/read.main/1535154

Has there been any further confirmation / stronger rumours from Lisbon about their possible entry into Star Alliance?

Mark

So TAP is now seriously considering getting new aircraft? I've heard for years now that they would purchase A332's to replace both the A310 and A340 fleets.

I thought TAP placed an LOI for 5 GE 332's? Or at least publicly indicated interest in the 332 as a 313 replacement.

TAP has got to be the poster child for Airbus. An all-Airbus fleet.

Panam, TWA, Ansett, Eastern.......AC next? Might be good for Canada.

It would be great to see TAP joining Star, and receiving new aircrat!
I think they could get the 332 to replace the 313, as already said here, but I just kept imagining if they got an A345 to replace the 343 they have!
I´d just love it!!

I have flown TAP a few times and I have always found their crew very friendly and hospitable, and although I am glad to see this airline do well and join a major alliance, I somehow feel that STAR is getting a bit too big with small/mid size airlines joining. WHat is the strategy for STAR? Do they accept any airline that wishes to join? And as for hub strategy? There is Spanair next door, and I really wonder how TAP fits into the whole Star plan.
Would this mean no competition on the Brazil-Lisbon route with codeshares with Varig, where both airlines fly they might just hand it over to only one carrier to operate.
I would like to see however some presence in the Asian region, and now it looks likely with a codeshare from either LH or SQ.

Star airlines themselves are strugggling... TAP would be much better off in SkyTeam.

Varig - Bankrupt
Air Canada - Bankrupt
United - Bankrupt
USAir - Basically Bankrupt

The world is really getting smaller these days

Varig is bankrupt? I didn't know that. Another Star airline that you didn't mention is Air New Zealand. They're in financial trouble as well.

But, that doesn't mean that carriers in other alliances aren't having financial trouble. DL and AZ are two that come to mind in SkyTeam.
