Can anyone please tell me what will be Civil Aviation policy of the Congress lead Government in the Centre ? I want to know whether the new Government in power would continue with the policy of privatization of Delhi and Mumbai airports? Seconldy if (airport) are privatized, will they (govt) privatise both the International and Domestic airports or either one of them?
Finally what do you guys anticipate; will the new govt. allow an open sky policy with ASEAN and SAARC nations, and allow 9W and S2 to fly to these destinations?
There is no reason to expect that the Indian Government will stop the privatization of the airports in DEL and BOM, the process is - smoothly - going on
Same with the civil aviation policy... I expect the government to go smoothly ahead with an expansion of a reciprocical open sky policy with ASEAN and SAARC, including private sector airlines. Liberalization will continue

The initial impressions based on Praful Patel's pre-inauguration comments is that this project will be placed on hold now. He is more keen to develop a Government-owned but privately-operated setup, rather than privatising the airport entirely.

In my opinion, I feel that the govt. should go on, but you never know the whims and fancies of the central government. Do you guys think that the new govt will partly privatise the management of AI and IC?

Privatisation of AI and IC? On one hand the previous govenment wanted to "disinvest" and on the other hand wated to "liberalise the market" by throwing it open to all and sundry. In such a scenario, who is going to buy AI and IC?
I feel a bit of "protectionism" will do AI and IC good- (that is finally they will fetch a decent price later when it is privatised).
People who talk about AI and IC privatisation should first read about how BA was fattened up before being farmed out to the private sector and then they will realise how ham handedly the previous govenment was going about it.
How about buying some new planes and recruting some badly needed operational staff for AI and IC, before you throw open even more sectors to Jet Sahara and its ilk in the guise of "benefitting the passenger!". I am sure Alliance Air can operate a new A319 just as well as Jet/ Sahara and friends does its 737- 900 !

I think Praful Patels concerns will be mroe with improvng the airports in the country, especially Mumbai, as well as concentrating on reviving the long defunct "Cargo Hub" project in Nagpur. COnsidering the drubbing the Congress got in the Vidarbha region (indeed Prafull Patel himself LOST the elections from the same region), concentrating on these would make sense, both politically as well as socially. A well developed international cargo hub at Nagpur would go a long way in attracting investment to this backward area.
AS far as airlines go, there was serious worry that a certain pvt airline would be benefitted, and very legitimately so. I personally think that Prafull Patel must adopt a "hands-off policy" as far as the national carriers go ,and avoid giving in to the kind of tactics that were used against BJP ministers like RUdy and Hussain. IC was being forced to cancel a very lucrative morning flight on the DEL-PAT route becuase a certain pvt carrier wanted to operate the morning flight as well. Ultimately the morning IC flight wasnt cancelled but the situation did get ugly. Similar tactics have also been adopted where IC has been forced to replace their A320 flight with a CD 732 flight, which also serves to drive passengers to the competition.
Mr.Patel, especially considering his publicly known links with ahem a certain airline CEO, would do well to walk clear of controversy.
