SAA Future Intercontinental Network
Why is Star better?

Network value driven heavily by the size of local markets

Europe
Germany is a larger market than both France and Italy combined

North America
Washington is a larger market than Atlanta not only to South Africa but also to African countries served via South Africa (Washington is the center of international institutions and embassies)
While Uniteds hub in Washington is smaller than Deltas in Atlanta, it serves the key cities that represent 85% of the US market for SAA

Asia
STAR provides access to the profitable Asian markets through Singapore and Japan
SAAs existing relationships with Qantas and Cathay can remain

The relationship that they have with Cathay and Qantas can remain, what about DL. No doubt in my mind Star is the right choice for them. Can you post the link to the ppt???

yes, the relationship with CX and QF will remain. SAA made this a precondition in their negotiations with Star Alliance.

I think that above document also puts it very clearly that the codeshare agreements with DL will come to an end.

With DL on the verge of bankruptcy dis-associating themselves as soon as possible with DL plays to their advantage, and not to mention, they don't get much benefits from DL anyway.
