I was just curious about what aircraft are being used in the Cdn election campaign if anyone knows?
I thought I saw a news clip with PM Paul Martin in what looked like a 727-200?!! With all of their stolen tax payers money could the Liberals not come up with a slightly newer aircraft?

The Liberals are using a 727-200 from Starjet and the NDP are using a 737-200 from A/C Jetz. We ( 7F ) were supposed to provide the NDP with a 727 but I think that fell through because of a c-check we could delay no longer on the aircraft. I have no idea who the Conservatives are flying with.

Sometimes all you can do is look them in the eye and ask " how much did your mom drink when she was pregnant with you?"

NDP is using C-GQCA an Air Canada Jetz A320. i have a shot on it albeit not in a good quality taken yesterday at YVR. Go over to jetphotos to look for it, its already there. Search C-GQCA.
Edit: The picture is of the a/c wearing the orange "NDP NPD" titles! check it out.

I have nothing against the 727--beautiful aircraft----
However it is old and kind of yesterday's vintage. Could there be a more appropriate choice to ferry around Paul Martin, the leader of that tired useless bucnh of morons aka the Liberal Party of canada---?

I started thinking, why isn't Paul Martin using one of the CAF's A310's? They are for government use as well as military right?
I wouldn't expect to see him flying around in an older 727 (as much as I love them), and the A310 wouldn't cost that much more to operate would it?

Government use yes, political use no. They can't use military aircraft during an election campaign. The Polaris fleet isn't on the PMs beckon call. I remember reading once that the CC150s are available as a civilian lease, but that the price is ridiculously high.
Anyways, since 90% of Canadians couldn't (or more importantly would not care to) tell a 727 from a CRJ, i don't think anyone really cares. Especially since the StarJet 727s look cleaner than most of the AC fleet these days.
Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

It's amusing that the governing party (in theory the party with the biggest coffers) are using the oldest (and presumably the cheapest) aircraft -- the 722.
Meanwhile the NDP with the smallest campaign fund has a new 319 -- well socialists always were good at spending money. No surprize perhaps.
I'm a little disappointed that the CPC has leased an AC aircraft. I would have expect the party most supportive of business and entrepreneurs would have leased a campaign aircraft from another airline on principle. Ah well -- I guess only AC has spare aircraft available given their unnecessary extra capacity.
Panam, TWA, Ansett, Eastern.......AC next? Might be good for Canada.

Just heard this at work yesterday : Jack Layton's A320 wasn't needed over the past weekend, and when AC suddenly needed an aircraft, they borrowed it back for a couple of days.
Apparently, lots of curious passengers were craning their necks as it pulled up to their gate for regular scheduled flights...expecting to see Jack walk off...(not sure exactly what routes it was being borrowed back for - somewhere in Eastern Canada)

I saw an AC Jetz with Jack Layton titles. Will upload it shortly if i have time. Taken 1 june at YVR sunset time.
Aren't these jetz C class configed with 50 seats or some sort? Would be great for pax service. they'd love them. but AC would only be able to carry limited pax. There's one pic in the database of a pax flight flown by a Jetz a/c.

Just about all of the Jetz planes are in the 60 seat J class configuration. There is one plane that has the regular 140 seat J/Y configuration. They sometimes use the planes on mainline flights to get the plane to certain city if needed.

Article in the Globe and Mail today said the NDP 320 (or 319) with NDP stickers on it was used on an AC sked YYZ-YQB v.v. Caused some confusion in YQB.

Could you imagine the flack the NDP would get if they used a non-union airline!
Of course, their campaign slogan of "A Green a Prosperous Canada", is an obvious tilt toward stealing Green Party support, but their roots are still heavy with labour support and I believe they still have a formal affiliation with a number of unions.
The new Conservative Party is really trying to present themselves as a national party, as opposed to the western based Reform/Alliance parties. So, Air Canada it must be.
The Liberals? Low bid by StarJet I presume. I think they have to pare back their usually huge campaign spending.

When I was in YWG (I just got back this Monday), I met up with MEL and he took me on a tour of YWG's facilities. During that time, MEL told me that he saw an AC A319 that was modified with Conservative stickers on the fuselage several days before.
