Anyone have any details on an AA flight diverted to BNA? Just broke in on CNN saying a combat team was about to enter the a/c. Looked like an MD-80

Two rules in aviation, don't hit anything and don't run out of gas, cause if you run out of gas yer gonna hit something.

No big deal. Pilot found a presumably phony bomb note-diverted to BNA they are searching plane fighter's escorted plane-I guess its no big deal if they don't find a bomb!

AF1 is/was at BNA right now http://www.wkrn.com/Global/story.asp?S=1901420&nav=1ugFNTfG

As for the AA MD-80 it was diverted for "security concerns". It was orginally scheduled to fly from DFW to BOS.....my guess it's either AA flt 306 or AA flt 1272...

WFAA here in DFW just identified it as flight 306, and that a F/A found a note alluding to a device onboard...

For Christ sakes! Is it asking too much to write the name of the airport in the title rather than just an abbreviation?
We're not all from the US you know.

Move your mouse over the airport abbreviation.  Big grin The full title of the airport should show up.

NZ767, "hover" your mouse over the "BNA" and you should see a "Nashville, TN" notation pop up.

Below is a link to a thread YOU started titled "TWA to AKL?".

Now then. Lets think about an apology as we are not all from New Zealand- you know.

I'm not sure if its because the President is in town, or there is something more, but they have left the airplane on the runway and have moved the big 'X' Runway Closed signs out. Also, local news is reporting that 2 seperate police dogs have 'hit' on something in the plane. All of the camera shots show no one anywhere near the jet as it sits alone on the remote runway.

Also, as reported, the figher jets where already in the area flying a CAP due to AF1 being in the area.

Yeah, point taken Wilco, but how old are those?
Probably before I realised that hell, I can't expect everyone to go running to their airport code lists to figure out where things are happening.

Thanks for the tip KFLL and Concord. 1400 posts and I didn't even figure that one out.
Sorry for the harshness.

According to MSNBC the pilot's first request to land at BNA was met with a request to continue on to somewhere else since Air Force One was onsite.... after a second request fighter jets escorted him into BNA....

A bit off topic but we should probably suggest some feature of the web site for easy airport code lookups as most of us are not Amadeus or a similar GDS system  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

I wouldn't worry to much about airport codes, I'll keep on using them since it's easier, and everybody knows what airport it is by moving the mouse over the code. It will show full name, state country etc etc.... so what's the problem?

But that "hover the mouse over the name" thing seems to be the answer.

I've been sitting in the airport police/fire dept. parking lot for about 2 hours watching all of this with some news media buddies...

I knew something was going on when the fighter jets that had been circling Nashville all day were flying very low around the city...

The plane is sitting near the end of 20R (2L) about 1/2 mile across a street and a field from where the VC-25 is currently parked (Berry Field ANG base). They x-rayed the "device" twice in the plane and couldn't conclude anything...so they dragged it down the aisle and out the back stairs with a rope and are supposed to detonate it in the field next to the runway shortly. The passengers were put on buses and taken to the Delta concourse to be interviewed by the FBI.

The local stations in Nashville are WSMV, WKRN and NewsChannel5 (add the .com) if you want to look for updated video clips...

The plane in question is:

On some of the 10pm newscasts they had interviews with people in Boston that were waiting on the plane up there and also showed a departure screen at BNA showing that the flight was supposedly continuing to Boston at 9:30pm. I haven't confirmed that it left throught fboweb or flytecomm yet, thought.

Did see (from the viewing area) a USA 3000 A320 leave about 10 minutes after Air Force One taking more media folks back to Andrews AFB... Guess I'd better get used to seeing Airbus aircraft here with Frontier coming to town next month!

Got a few pics of Air Force One leaving... Took them in a hurry with ISO 800 and poor lighting, but at least I have something for the personal gallery - not for a.net though...
