"Continental Airlines has reached an agreement with the Puerto Rico Tourism Co. and will begin offering a daily nonstop flight from Ponce to Newark, N.J., in December."

Great news for PSE! The airport had not seen jet service in years. So, now that CO will have service in all three jet-capable airports in Puerto Rico, I wonder how AA will react. And what about the Cape Air codeshare? With a direct flight, I doubt people will want to connect in San Juan to then prop it to Ponce when they don't have to anymore. Time will tell, I suppose.

This route had been rumored for a while...Congratulations to CO on this new flight. I hope it works out.

What type of aircraft do they plan on using? I would guess a 73G or 738.

Also, when do they plan on issuing a formal press release about the new service?

Is there any tentative schedule? I would think that they might do a RON, similar to EWR-BQN, where the plane leaves EWR at ~7:00 PM, returning the next morning around 8 or 9 AM.

I do hope this new route comes to fruition, my hometown airport of Ponce lost nonstop service to the mainland back when Pan Am 2 quit flying. I would love to see a CO 737 in the tramac at Ponce, about AA reacting- I really doubt it unless we see another carrier come into the airport. When Pan Am 2/ Carnival flew to both PSE and BQN, BQN always seemed to be a stronger destination than Ponce- so lets see how this plays out with CO.

This route should do well for Continental...EA flew it with a 757 and it had good loads...I remember working it a few times as a F/A.

The continental people visit the airport last october and talk about the new route but they have some problems with TSA . And is afirmative that they using a 737-700 because they can be take off full of passengers and cargo on PSE short runway.
