Continental Connection To Trenton, NJ

Does anyone here work for commutair (continental connection)? If so do you think they will be flying to trenton? If you think any other airlines will fly to trenton you could add that to.

That is like, what, an fifteen minute flight from EWR?  Smile It is only an hour and seventeen minutes driving time. Of course, US Airways has PHL - AVP service on a 737, so I guess anything is possible.

Presumably, CommutAir would be flying TTN-ALB. Less likely, they'd fly TTN-CLE. They certainly wouldn't be flying TTN-EWR.

I think TTN-ALB could be successful. I don't think TTN-CLE would be successful, especially on a 19-seater; Continental Express couldn't even get ACY-CLE to work.

However, I don't think it'll happen. The NIMBYs just can't wait to get rid of Shuttle America (US Airways Express), so I don't see them welcoming CommutAir with open arms. That's the main reason I don't see anyone really expanding in TTN, the Boston-Maine Airways service notwithstanding.

It is amazing that the NIMBY'S are getting their panties in a wad over
Saab-340's or J32's, considering Eastwind flew 737-200's and 700's out
of TTN when they were in business.

New Jersey needs Eastwind back. BADLY. Trenton is a nice little airport- very convenient, just as much a drive from me as JFK is... I really wish someone would start service again, because with the right fare, they can do quite well. Sorry USAirways, but charging $300 roundtrip for an hour hop to Pittsburgh isnt going to fill your Saabs... Guess they couldnt see it, but TTN is not "captive audience". People who can drive to TTN can just as easily get to ACY (Spirit), PHL or any of the NYC airports depending on your location relative to TTN...

If Shuttle America was setting those prices, they must have been under an extreme amount of pressure from US Airways. Shuttle America never charged $150 one way to go anywhere on their mid-atlantic/northeast/allegheny network.

I dont buy that Shuttle America was alone in that decision... In fact, I would like to see some proof that Shuttle America did infact set those prices? Can anyone back that up? Just curious...

US Airways Express affiliate turboprop carriers (Air Midwest, Colgan, Shuttle America, Trans States) set their own pricing (and scheduling, city-pairs...) on itineraries wholly on their metal, because they operate under a pro-rate contract with US Airways, not a fee-for-departure contract like the RJ operators.

If I had to guess as to why the TTN-PIT flights might be priced uncompetitively, it would be because there is not much O&D traffic on the flights, and with only 1 flight a day, it's basically there to rotate aircraft, and not so much concerned with earning revenue.

I'd also note that the TTN-PIT fares are competitive with the PHL-PIT fares. In fact, the lowest TTN-PIT fare is $152 r/t, while the lowest PHL-PIT fare is $234 r/t. For midweek travel, they're both identical at $255 r/t.

The 152 fare perhaps is a promotion, but IIRC, USX is pulling out of TTN (or atleast they were going to).

I fly to Pittsburgh very often and always check Trenton. I fly midweek sometimes, and I fly weekend sometimes. And TTN is never under $250. That said, PIT is expensive from anywhere...

When you fly out of ttn you can arrive in the terminal 10 min. before departure. So that's why I think its so convenient.

From the US Airways Group 10-K:

The US Airways Express code share arrangements are either in the form of a capacity purchase or a “prorate” agreement. [...] The carriers with a prorate agreement are non-owned turboprop operators and include all or a portion of the turboprop operations of Colgan Airlines, Inc. (Colgan), Trans States, Shuttle Acquisition LLC (Shuttle America), and Air Midwest, Inc. (Air Midwest). The prorate agreements provide for affiliate carriers to pay certain service fees to US Airways as well as a prorated share of revenue for connecting customers. US Airways is responsible for pricing and marketing of connecting services to and from the prorate carrier. The prorate carrier is responsible for pricing and marketing the local, point to point markets.

Air service between "West" Trenton Mercer County Airport and Newark Airport does not make sense since Mercer County is so well served by NJ Transit and Amtrak trains to Newark Airport, it would just add to congestion at Newark.

Princeton Jct (West Windsor), Princeton Borough, Hamilton and Trenton all have several trains each hour to Newark Airport on the Northeast Corridor. You can hop on the Dinky right inside Princeton University and take that to a Northeast Corridor train to Newark Airport faster than driving out to West Trenton and flying to Newark Airport, even though 'West" Trenton airport is right off 95 is not near the route 1 corridor or the Capital District.

Continental Connection flights to their hub in Albany makes sense, connecting the State Capitals of New York and New Jersey.

What Mercer County Officials should lobby for is air service to..

Chicago from one of the following UAL express, American Eagle, ATA Regional Affiliate at Midway.

Detroit, one of the following Spirit or NWA Regional Affiliate

Cleveland, Continental Connection/Express

Atlanta, one of the following Airtran or Delta Regional Affiliate

Orlando, one of the following Spirit, Airtan, USA 3000

Ft.Lauderdale, one of the following Spirit, Airtran or USA 3000

Boston..

I think bringing in a CO Connection carrier to EWR to serve some routes COEX dropped when they retired their EM2 and ATR fleet is doable without casuing too much extra congestion, spread out the flights and try to dedicate them to runway 11/29.

COEX routes that were dropped when COEX transitioned to an all jet fleet..

Atlantic City, Islip, Bangor, Ithaca, Elmira, Binghamton, Marthas Vineyard, Harrisburg, New Haven.

"NJ Transit The way to GO " Continental and the Port Authority spent lots of Money to Conect NJ transit to EWR..SO Pax could ride on it to Penn Station in NYC..Or Course you car ride the Train to TTN and PHL as well...Whats Wrong with the Train Set up to EWR ??
