The Chairman of Aer Lingus, Tom Mulcahy, has resigned, due to a scandal unconnected with Aer Lingus. Mr. Mulcahy is a board member of Allied Irish Bank, which has been the subject of investigations. The reason seems complicated, but it appears that several senior executives and board members had offshore tax free accounts.
The CEO of Aer Lingus, Willie Walsh, remains firmly in place; with the exception of the late Bernie Cahill, who was Executive Chairman until his tragic death in a drowning accident, EI chairmen have held little power.
