British Airways Flight From LHR-RST (Rochester, MN

Everyone turn on your trackers and take a look, BAW9110 from London Heathrow to Rochester, MN, USA. Is it just me that's seeing that, or is everyone seeing it? What is it?

My best guess is a charter flight to bring a patient to the Mayo Clinic, but that's the best I can think of.

Definitely a charter. I think it's more likely to be for a corporate/business group than an individual though.

As for the BA747 to RST, I can't think of any other reason for it being there then just for Mayo Clinic...

747'a come there every once in a while. DC-10's, L1011's also show up at RST. most of the wide body's come from the middle east to the famous Mayo Clinic. What time of the day was the BA 744 there? I live only about 30 minutes from the airport, and would have loved to see that!

According to the charts, RST's runway 13/31 is 7533' X 150' and runway 2/20 is 7300' X 150'. Surface strength can handle up to 300,00 lbs. Yes, this is minimum length for the 747, but it can and IS done. A 747 CAN NOT take off heavy however out of there, NON-stop back to Europe (obviously).

FWIW... Though I cannot remember when (it was many years ago!), on one occasion I observed a Northwest 747 doing what must have been "touch and go" landing and takeoff practice at RST.
