I'll be arriving on AA flight 950 on Jun 26 between 6 and 6:30 AM on JFK terminal 8 (inbound from GIG through GRU). I then have to go to terminal 9 for my connecting flight to SEA, which leaves at 7:30 AM.
Having never been to JFK. but with full knowledge that it's bloody huge, I'm wondering if such tight connection is humanly possible. I'm thinking it is otherwise AA wouldn't have given it to me as an option, but I thought I'd ask the more seasoned travellers of a.net so I can get the real perspective.

Well in one week I have to fly through JFK as well. I bought a ticket which gave me an hour for connecting. After I showed it to a friend he almost murdered me, saying that that might not be enough for the customs and getting to another terminal. So I had to book another flight which was at a later time. So now I have 4.5 hours in New York.
So I suggest making more time.

You WON't have enough time!! I presume you have to get through Immigration in JFK???
Are the flights all AA? If so, and if it is under one PNR they SHOULDN't have issued the ticket and this does not meet th MCT. I think the MCT in JFK is at least 1.5- 2 Hours (especially for Internationl-Domestic Connection?)
(unless you cleared immigration already, therefore I think MCT = 30-40 minuted only, but I wouldn't risk it as the luggage guarantee will miss the flight (however I remember once my plane was delayed from SFO-LAX ( I wasn transiting in LAX to LAS) and when I got to LAX, I was ushered immediately to the next flight (Luckily the plane to LAS was just at the next gate!!!) Also my luggage made it through as well ( I was the last pax to join the flight, I think the flight dispatcher did went downstair and get ensured my baggage was loaded on the flight.
I must say AA does have good service @ times, and I also I never lost a piece of luggage before with them (even on CX I did, but that was because I did the following: HKG-AA), New Zealand">AKL-MEL-PER-SYD and it was QF that stuffed it up)
I always plan at least 2 hours in transit when I am in US (and that is with my CX Diamond MPO (Emerald Oneworld) and also on F or J Class.
The security and also immigration is bad (even with the express security).
You should phone the airline up and check with them (maybe they can offer you the next flight without additonal charge).

Well, I did the whole thing in one reservation through AA.com, but they say there's a fee for re-scheduling or itinerary changes.
I'm the adventurous type so I'll go for it. If any of you happens to be at JFK term. 8 at that day and time and see a guy in a suit and tie running like feck with a filled luggage cart, yep, that'll be me

That connection will be tight. You'll have to clear customs/immigration in Terminal 8, and then make a mad dash for Terminal 9. At that time of the morning you'll also be up against a nice long TSA security line. You won't have to run with your bags though, after passing through customs there will be a baggage re-check desk. Just drop your bags and run.
The distance between Terminal 8 and 9 isn't too far, and the route between the two is pretty well defined. If it's any condolence, the South America flights have a nice tendency of arriving a bit early, so that may help you out.

Good luck in making your connection - I concur with the others, you probably won't make it. Your luggage will probably make it, though.
There is no fee for changing an itinerary if the connection AA sold you was invalid or causes a misconnect. I would contact AA reservations to see what they can do. There are no direct flights from JFK-SEA after 7:30am, but there are a number of one-stop options for you afterwards.

OK, well this changes the story a little. Since you bought both tickets through AA, that means if you miss your flight, they will arrange you on another flight by themselves. Now if it were two different airlines, you would have to reschedule. But it seems like you are ok.
