Backpackers Xpress, a new airline in Australia that will be based out of Melbourne, has announced new information. They will be looking at the 747-400 for their one type layout and will expect to get their first two from SQ from which they will be retiring. If the airline cannot get the 747-400 in will go for the 743. The airline will be doing "backpacker" routes like Munich and others. The aircraft though in a single class, low cost, layout, will offer 32in. seat pitch in the lower deck, 36in. in the back upper deck, and 40in. in the front upper. Instead of purchasing expensive IFE systems, the airline will have dancing, kareoke, and learning programs about their destination and will be able to rent Mini DVD players in which they can watch movies (cinema movies as well as ones about the destination), and listen to music. The airline is aimed towards educating the passengers.

Sounds good and I hope they get off the ground.
Last time I heard they were still looking for financial backing.

I hope they educate the passengers about aircraft safety though.
Imagine them dancing away and all of a sudden they hit unexpected turbulence. Smile

Oh sorry,
By the dancing, I forgot to mention that it is not like a huge dance floor with couples, the dance part is when they have people from the country show native dances (when they go to there more exotic destinations) and have the people give the passengers tips and advice and teach them about the new customs that are in there final destination.

Do they know when they are hoping to have their first flight?

I thought the proposed routing was MEL-BKK-DEL-MAN twice- or thrice-weekly, and MEL-BKK-DEL-MUC twice- or thrice-weekly?

"Do they know when they are hoping to have their first flight?"

They haven't yet been granted capacity under the UK-Australia bilateral to start services so they would have no idea when they could have the inaugural flight.
