Getting Upgraded On EK

Hi all!

I was wondering if anyone has been upgraded on a EK flight? How strict are Emirates about upgrading? My mum and I are flying DEL-DXB-VIE, and MUC-DXB-DEL with EK soon, with a full fare Y class ticket. We are both Skywards members, but haven't recieved our cards yet! Anyway, if we don't get bumped up, how good is EK's Y class on the A330? Any particular seats to get to the airport hours in advance for?

As someone who experienced the nightmare of working in EK management, let me enlighten you:

1) EK Y class on A330 = super cramped!

2) Station managers prefer to upgrade pax who originate in their station. If a flight is routed BNE-SIN-DXB, a BNE pax only going as far as SIN would have preference over a BNE-DXB pax. In your case, your best chance is DEL-DXB- you can forget about any upgrade ex DXB homebase.

Chance of you getting upgrade = minimal (as you are NOT even at the elite status - judging by the fact you just joined Skyward).

I mean even for members like myself on CX (Diamond MPO member - Emerald Oneworld)
It is not guarantee I get an upgrade everytime!

Also is your Y Class ticket fully Y Class (Y) or just a B class or other sub-class coded products?

Flykangaroo: When you are Skymiles-member and don't even have the Skymiles card you don't have any miles on it. Sorry to say that but at the moment your card doesn't make any sence if you ask for Upgrade. You didn't fly with them before and want to have an Upgrade? If it works, you have lots of luck.

EK's 332's have a reasonable Y class, it's not special, but it's not crap either. It's not much different to other airlines, it's 32" pitch.

Yeah, we have flown on them, twice in F! We applied at the F lounge at DXB, and handed in our boarding card to get the extra 5000 points. They also noted that we were flying return and assured us that the points would be there soon. If we don't have the cards by the time were in Dubai, we'll have to go to an Emirates Info desk or something and complain.

So my chances of being upgraded are pretty grim?

I was upgraded on EK from SIN - DXB on 21st April this year. I was booked on EK405 which leaves SIN at 02:10 and I believe originates in AKL. It was overbooked so they rushed me through to catch the 00:30 EK349 instead, once I had been given an upgrade for the inconvienience of course!

its pretty easy to get an upgrade on emirates airline if u know someone influential in the company regardless of which station to or from u travelling and before it wasnt necessary to b skywards member to get an upgrade, but i believe since last couple of years in order for u to get an upgrade u need to b skyward member.u dnt need ur cards as long as u have skyward card number or whatevr is given to u.
i usually always get an upgrade to emirates J class. as Y class is upgraded to J its rare u will get into F as upgraded.unless u have J class ticket which than upgraded to F class. and Ek332 Y class is not cramped. i think it is as good as any other airline out there. probably better than many.
