I will be flying JNB-LHR-PRG-LHR-JNB early July, and I was wondering about transfers at LHR. As far as I know, BA European flights go out of T1, long haul from T4.

I got my ticket yesterday and the travel agent has a pretty tight schedule. If I check my baggage right through is an hour enough?

So you are taking BA through Heathrow from JNB? Or is the JNB-LHR on SAA?

Every experiance I have had at LHR transfering has not been a quick or easy one. LHR is a monster. I would think if your on BA the whole way than they may be able to get your bags over in time (they do not like keeping baggage from a person who has already departed anymore, or fly baggage on a plane that does not contain the pax).

BA all the way, if it was SAA I wouldn't worry cos SAA uses T1 so no terminal change necessary. I did a transfer at LHR once before and that additional security that you go through to change terminals can be very busy that's why i was worried about the short time to transfer.

the schedule I saw from my company's travel agent didn't allow much on the return leg, if I recall correctly the flights are:

BA857 PRG-LHR 18:55/19:55
BA57 LHR-JNB 21:00/08:50

so just over an hour. Unfortunately I can't leave Prague any earlier.

Didn't BA move the JNB flight to terminal 1?

Andz

BA's Jo'burg flight's now depart from Terminal 1, they switched them from Terminal 4 last October. They changed this due to the high number of passengers connecting from their European flights on to the Jo'burg flight.

Even if you do have to transfer, I believe it takes about 20 minutes. I think you can either walk through a connections tunnel or take a connecting bus between the terminals?

LHR should have a minimum transfer time of 1 1/2 to 2 hours for connecting T3/T4 to T1 in the morning. It is a disaster. Later in the day is not too bad. As you are T1 to T1, you should be ok with 1 hour.

LHR could be a nightmare, If you Transfer at LHR Always take plenty of time in between flights. However if you are booked as a {through Fare} and for some reason you miss your connecting flight, then the airline which took you to LHR is fully responsible for your missed connecting flight.

AMS
