New private low cost carrier Smart Jet Airways will begin flights in October flying out of its base, Dubai, to destinations in the Gulf, Middle East, Europe and Africa.
The airline will initially acquire 2 B757-200s and will NOT compete head-to-head with Emirates.

I'd say it's probably due to the fact EK has the area well covered but I see them expanding into Dammam (KSA), Allepo (Syria) and maybe other North African cities.

I read in a paper here (believe it was the Gulf News) a few days ago that the DXB airport authorities don't want lowcost carriers at the airport, and the article mentioned that this might endanger the startup plans of SmartJet.
Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been...

This airline should too look at :
1. Dubai-Goa
2. Dubai-Mombasa
3. Dubai-Bali (but the B 757 cant fly that route nonstop...maybe the -200ER could!!!)
4. Dubai-Copenhagen
5. Dubai-Geneva
Both CPH and GVA are vvvv popular with Arabs especially in summer...and EK doesnt fly to CPH...does it fly to GVA???
Is there that much demand for leisure traffic between DXB and SPAIN for this airline to fly to both MAD and Barcelona??? I know Kuwait Airways mints money on the Malaga route which is a summer seasonal route for them and usually F and J class is always sold out to Malaga which is a twice a week AB6 flown destination in the summer months.

Since the airline won't compete with EK out of DXB, any future expansion will have to take Emirates plans into consideration. So BEY and other EK destinations are out of the question. I wonder if they will succeed with such a plan.

When I contacted the authorities of DXB-airport shortly after "Smart Jet" was in the press, they were rather angry. For several reasons. A) the company had advised the media but NOT the authorities B) none of the companies mentioned to be involved was/is known or registered C) none of the persons mentioned are known ---- and one of them apparently is the name of the official in charge with immigration in the emirate . So that the authorities regarded the whole stuff as thoroughly fishy !

There are tons of flights from between Lebanon & the UAE,too many carriers are operating this route,so even if smartjet had the chance to serve BEY I don't think they would've done so,IMO.
