If ATA had kept the florida routes that it operated out of PIE (FLL, MIA, MCO, and??) but just downgraded to a smaller aircraft (Saab 340), does anyone think they would make money on that operation? It seemed a little extreme operating 727s on those routes.
The next generation of aircraft is just around the corner!

I flew FLL-PIE back when it was around and my 727 went out full in both directions and so did the 757 parked next to our aircraft on the way home. If they were able to fill up 727's on that route a few 340's prob would be quite profitable. The only thing is back in the day Southwest was not serving Fort Lauderdale. So at this point in time I don't think it would make sense at all.

ATA was charging 29.00 for the seat and then WN cam in an charged less. It is still a good Idea for ATA but I doubt that they will do this unless maybe they get a hub in CLT or JAX.

ATA flew from PIE to--MIA, FLL, MCO, PBI (?), RSW...i want to say Sarasota also but that is too close...i am not sure about the fares. When i flew the "florida connection" i flew from IND-PIE-FLL.
