Burned Aircraft At CUN

During our taxi out of CUN, we passed by a remote parking area that housed two aircraft...one was an Allegro DC-9? and the other was a similar-sized aircraft that appeared to have burned...was hard to tell from across the cabin. Does anyone have any info about the 'burned' aircraft? I thought it was interesting, but I didn't dare mention it to my wife...who is already an uneasy flier...but thoughts of the Mandarin MD-11 taxiing past the burned Mandarin MD-11 crossed my mind.

Could it have been the local firefighters training aircraft? Many airports have old aircraft or mock-ups that allow them to train on fighting aircraft fires.....

Hi there.

What you saw in your way to Runway 12 (you were seating in the right hand side, correct?) is a former AeroExo (now Aviacsa) 727-100 that was parked indefinitely a few years ago and was never really scrapped. It is not burnt nor was involved in an accident, they just left the aircraft after most probably maintenance problems and started to stripping it off of mechanical parts as happens very often (the dark part in the roof is just dust, dirt although it has been used for firefighting training though).

There is also a DC-3 right in front of the 727-100 and also an ex-Allegro Airlines 727-200 rego XA-TLZ left there a couple of years ago, when the initial MD83s arrived to the now extinct company. The aircraft is missing one engine, parts of the hydraulic system, some navigation instruments and some other components.
