Does anyone know why IB uses the 747 to the Canaries? Surely even if the a/c is reasonably full on each flight they would be better using the 757 and increasing frequency or leasing a few 762/763 for the services, after all, they used the A300B4 until it was retired,it must cost a bomb to fly those 4 holers on those short hops of 1.5 hours. Anyone know?

My guess is cargo. If its anything like Hawaii for us carriers its HUGE!

I think part of it is due to optimization of aircraft useage. They can fit in a short-haul rotation between two long-hauls to South America, and since there is high demand on the routes to the Cnaraies, why not use a 747, which would otherwise sit idle in MAD for most of the day?
