Next Rumor: LTU Will Start DUS-NYC Next Summer

There's are some rumours on German internet pages that LTU will start a regular service from Duesseldorf, Germany to New York next summer.
Flight will operate 4 times a week...

Panam, TWA, Ansett, Eastern.......AC next? Might be good for Canada.

Considering this "source", I would be very cautious to believe it. Unless LTU manages to market the bellyspace of their Airbusses with some very favorable freight rates, I doubt that they would be able to make money on this highly competitive market.

Remember that already LH and CO have pulled out of the DUS-NYC market - and these airlines both had considerably higher passenger feed at one of the ends of the flight.

LTU really wants to grow that is obvious. The question is who they want to attract. Business passengers will not like their frequencies while cities like New York are not exactly typical charter destinations.

Years ago I already talked to friends saying that if it were up to me I would merge LTU with (then still called-) Deutsche BA and build up a "real" airline turning away from the charter network. It would have DUS as main base and be able to serve 15 million people of the Rhein-Ruhr area. Well Deutsche BA is now dba but LTU seems to go in this direction anyways, just without a merger having Air Berlin feed their flights.

I'm not sure how they want to make money in this market. Other airlines tried it and failed.

I think thats plenty of competition for a country that is about half as large as Texas.

It alreayd has been upgraded. LTU is now operating MIA-DUS on Tuesdays and Fridays, both year-round. They are also now flying MIA-MUC on Wednesdays, year-round.

It's awesome that LTU is looking at NYC. I definitley think they can make it work.

There is correct for LT is used them with DUS-MIA for once in the weekly. I remember while back was use service to MIA.
