SAN FRANCISCO (CBS.MW) -- In the ongoing virtual debate over whether some of the biggest names in the airline industry can straighten up and fly right, Delta Air Lines bulls seem to be losing their vigor.
At a conference Wednesday, Delta CEO Gerald Grinstein painted a bleak picture for the Atlanta-based carrier, and as has been the case with United and American Airlines, stock jockeys didn't exactly fall over each other to offer their support online.
While the airline tends to takes a back seat in the message boards to its industry peers, the stock's turbulent descent, along with an influx of short-sellers, has triggered plenty of buzz lately.

Now THIS is a great quote from that article:
IHeardWhatHere tried to put it in the simplest of terms: "JetBlue has cut every possible corner, and that's what it's going to take for everyone else. Screw comfort, screw food, screw options. You want to go to California, here's when the plane leaves, it's $400, sit down, shut up, and NO, you don't get a %^&$ing sandwich."

Well that sure sounds like a Delta quote if you ask me. Tho B6 does offer comfort, snacks more than pretzels, yes options, such as online check in, and such, so maybe they need to look a tad harder at the big picture....

I saw this story and thought it was rather odd too. I mean why make a story about what people on a BBS are posting? What's the point, sure I always go to a BBS to get my investment advice.

"Wow, Etrade using message board users for a story. What's next, the Wall Street Journal coming to this forum for advice? Etrade just lots a lot of credibility in my book."
Uh... hello? The article was from CBS Marketwatch? And those message boards are stock trader/analyst message boards?
Let's face it, stock prices are often more about perception than reality... and the best way to take the pulse of perception is to quietly watch the people who are perceiving.

There are a lot of restricted-user message boards in use these days.
It's a great way of sharing detailed information and opinions in financial circles, and saves bags of expensive time and meetings. Information can be shared amongst companies and analysts much quicker than the traditional methods of telephone and bar-room chatter.
Some of them apparently have hefty membership fees as well to discourage those who are not the intended audience.

CBSmarketwatch lost credibility to me because it has got to be the most invasive site with cookies and pop-ups...can't stand it! I tend to think eTrade automatically pulls some of these "headlines" by keywords and CBSmarketwatch pays them an advertising fee or something.

E*Trade has a lot of feeds including Reuters, etc. I want to see a LOT of different news on my stocks.
"BTW...Delta's stock price is up a nice 7% today"
I saw that... of course they are all up somewhat but 7-8% was a bit odd. Nothing compared to what they have been losing, though.
Buy freakin AirTran (AAI) right now!
