This is great news for UA. They've got spare aircraft parked in the desert. Plus, UA's cabin configurations allow them to maximize the high yield demand on these routes whether they use the 777 or 744. This should be a good money maker for UA. Hopefully, they will seize the opportunity to add more routes and frequency. They might be able to introduce direct service from LAX, JFK and IAD if the demand is really there.

"The airline in April opened a sales office in Guangzhou, another city United is interested in serving in the future."

So is UA looking into SFO-CAN or what kind of service to Guangzhou?

I don't think they want SFO-CAN coz they already fly to HKG. And HKG is like 2 hours away from CAN and you take simply take the bus or the ferry from the airport. So I would say no.

I hope HKG-LAX, HKG-JFK, LAX-AKL etc will resume service one day. Hope...... Smile

Any news on ORD-DEL which they planned for long? An interesting route.

I wouldn't discount the possibility of SFO-CAN if the demand is there. SFO and OAK are only a 10 miles apart, yet UA flies to both from CHI, DEN and IAD. If there is demand, there will be flights... eventually!

That is the route that AA is interested in and planning to apply for, but the big difference is that UA already has rights to China. The way I read the announcement of the new agreement, that means they are eligible (along with NW) to apply for the two new daily frequencies that are available this year. AA on the other hand, would have to wait for the award next year for the one new pax carrier, and will likely be competing against CO and DL for the rights.

DL will NOT be competing for the new China rights. Not enough 777's available for the route. I would expect AA to go head to head with CO and UA for this authority. DL is my favorite airline with AA running 2nd. I wish DL had more 777's or the MD-11's left for the route, but its just not feasible at this point.

DL was interested in HKG-ATL a few years back. Perhaps they will do it one day if they get the B 777-200LR.

I am guessing that this has something to do with China and the US liberalizing the air market (as another thread put it). Hopefully UA will succeed and get to operate some more Chinese routes that they seem eager to serve.

If you have never designed an airplane part before, let the real designers do the work!
