There's always Southwest's BWI-ISP, but you'll have to drive a bit to get to NYC.

Check the established carriers, too, for competitive fares. If there's a LCC in the market, they'll match the fare...and give you a better mileage program with international destinations. Also, unlike Indy Air, with the mainlines, you'll in most cases get a big boy jet and not a regional.

For travel between NYC and Washington DC Amtrak is probably a better choice, the travel time by train is 2:35 and they have over 30 daily departures from NY Penn Station right in Mid-town Manhattan to Union Station in Washington DC.

Amtrak is the USA's National Rail network.

It depends when/where you are going. Recently, I've taken several daytrips to Washington on Saturdays. I leave in the morning and come back in the evening for about $140 roundtrip on US Airways or Delta Shuttle.

Independence Air is starting service from JFK-IAD this summer with about 15 daily flights and fares around $60 each way. This is probably your best bet but keep in mind that JFK and IAD are both harder to get to than LGA and DCA.

IAD is harder to get to than DCA, yes. But LGA vs. JFK is not so certain. With JFK you can take the train and not have to worry about traffic. Never had any problems going there. Plus, LGA can be delay-prone, whereas if you avoid JFK during the 4-7pm hours, you should be fine.

LGA, despite its proximity to Manhattan, is actually the MOST difficult of the three PANYNJ airports to get to...you can take the AirTrain from Jamaica Station (LIRR) to JFK and from a dedicated Newark Airport Station (NJ Transit and Amtrak) to EWR...the only way to get to LaGuardia is by cab...parking at LaGuardia, particularly long-term parking, is abysmal, and the only way to get to LGA by mass transit is to take an extremely ridiculous and circuitous train/bus combination...in other words, take a car or taxi...to be fair, however, New York City cab fares are the most reasonable cab fares in the country...

777YYC-Sorry, but Scamtrak is certainly NOT an LCC on the Northeast Corridor...the train ride between New York-Penn and Washington-Union is ANYTHING but cheap...in fact, the lowest buckets on the LGA-DCA route costs less than NYP-WAS on the train...

Amtrak isnt really that cheap.

The cheapest way to get to NYC from Washington is to take the Chinatown bus. $ 40 r/t point to point and a free chinese chop chop flick thrown in for good measure.
