More 7E7 Orders At Farnborough?

Since the start of Farnborough 2004 is rapidly approaching, do you think that there will be any big orders for the 7E7? BA? JL? EI? Bulk order from China's four leading airlines??

AWST/Aviation Week reports that Boeing will only offer 80-90 delivery positions in 2008 the first year of production, which could force some airlines to order the 7E7 sooner rather than later.

I think the pressure will be on JAL -- they operate a large fleet of A300's inherited from JAS that arguably need replacing sooner than ANA's 763 fleet.

Panam, TWA, Ansett, Eastern.......AC next? Might be good for Canada.

My guess would also be the airlines which NW7E7 mentioned may place orders for the 7E7. I'm not sure BA ordering the 7E7, probably not this year. EI seems to be a candidate but I'm not sure about them either, looking at their strong Airbus relationship. LH somehow I also have my doubts whether they will order the 7E7 as they too are a large Airbus customer, but who knows, everything is possible in this business. JL is indeed a very likely candidate for the 7E7. Other airlines which could be potential 7E7 customers in my opinion are: EK, AA/CO/DL (in the longer term once they start making a profit).

I also think BA will order the A380 as well, looking at the congestion at LHR. But this will probably happen in two years from now in my opinion.

Regards,

A388

A388..though I agree the LH would probably not order it now, them being mainly a Airbus customer is not much an argument. Many airlines to not want to stick with 1 company which we have discussed here before.

Any airline that flys into LHR I could see buying the A380. What a sight LHR may be in 5 and 10 years from now!

Anything is possible, I could see Air France ordering the 7E7 even. Look at them, they fly the A340 and the 777. Its more of a question of what aircraft hasn't Air France owned.

LH I highly doubt though. BA probably would for their big 757 and 767 fleet.

I don't think it should be a "who" question, but "how many"? Most threads allude to the 380 v 7E7 case. Not an A v B debate, but what will, or does the aviation community need in terms of new airliners. The shoe could have been on the other foot. Boeing could have opted for the jumbo and Airbus with an advanced, conventional airliner. So who is right? The buyer. We'll know by the number of aircraft sold. "The customer is always right."

I suppose the questions are who can afford the 7E7 (or anything) and who can not afford to bypass the jet.

The answer to the latter question must surely be JL given the NH order. And while Boeing is doing a great deal in terms of pricing the jet, many of the once near certain candidates are on the verge of Chapter 11, maybe even Chapter 7.

It is now up to Boeing to deliver totally on the promises made concerning this jet. They have proven they can do it superbly with the 777-300ER, there is no room to doubt they won't do it with the 777-200LR, and no doubt the fate of the Beech Starship has been studied in great detail during the formulation of the 7E7 family.

I'd add a new set of candidates to the line up as well, although again, they are a bit financially rattled at the moment. And that is LCCs that use more major airports than others. easyJet will have to change guage for a larger unit size in the next decade, just as Virgin Blue will at Sydney Airport.

If the emerging big six in the US ends up including AirTran as well as JetBlue and Southwest and the economy posts strong growth, there must come a time sooner rather than later that they need a larger unit size.

Forget the big manufacturers.

Farnborough this year looks like it will be Embraer's show. The EMB-170/190 will probably book the majority of orders by numbers now that it is in service.

Airlines traditionally wait for the type to enter service before committing to buying, except obviously for launch orders. Now that Embraer can offer in-service data then the order books will be opened again from those on the sidelines.

There might be Airbus orders announced, but don't expect Boeing to be doing anything major. Their strategy is generally not tailored to airshow anouncements.

Why? 90% of those A300-600Rs are less than 5 years old, substantially younger than JAL's 767 fleet.

I think its Embraer's turn to shine this time. And I think they'll pile up more orders than we all think. The airline era is changing, remember? RJs are becoming more popular and cost savings nowadays.

Nothing like optimism....first 500, then 1,000...now 1,500

Not a chance. There isn't that much money or need in the airline industry at the moment. Whoever your "contact" at Boeing is, is talking complete rubbish.

Looking at recent history, for a plane of its size and departure from previous construction methods, a realistic figure would be 200 or so for entry into service. Once it's up and flying, bugs worked out and the rest, then the airlines might be placing substantial fleet orders.

1500 would mean replacing just about every 767 and A330 flying today.

I'd say near 0% chances. I still feel like WN only mentioned the Embraers and IFE only because of B6. WN has changed their business model only once in 30 years--To add transcon flights.

As for Farnborough, I'm hoping for a combo SQ 773ER/7E7 order. That will hold my appetite until the next big order comes through!  Smile

My contact inside Boeing has "suggested" to me that they will announce over 200 sales at Farnborough.

Are you sure your contact is at Boeing?! For Boeing to get 200 orders at Farnborough (assuming you aren't talking about options), SQ,QF,CX,JL,BA,AZ,LH, and a handful of others would all have to order. This seems very unlikely.....The only way Boeing might get close to 200 is if that large Chinese order comes through.

As I have previously stated, internally at least, Boeing is looking at around 1,500 sales by entry into service.

Way too steep. Boeing has said they hope to sell around 1,500 models of one version in it's life, not in the next 4 years!!!

With most major US carriers near Chapter 11, it looks like we won't see a US 7E7 order at Farnborough or anytime soon. How times have changed from the past couple decades when the launch order for a new Boeing airliner was usually a US carrier.

Really not sure about JL ordering any, as they have heaps of 767-300's on order.

One carrier that has a big question mark next to its name in my opinion is QF. QF have plenty on money, but have just received and continue to receive A330's, and have A380's on order. I guess they confussing part when it comes to QF is that they still also have a large of 767's operating domestic services, and QF will be under alot of pressure to match Air NZ with their 7E7 order or NZ may gain a product premium over them.

Just a thought

Funny how Boeing is saying that they predict sales of 1500 7E7s by the time of production. That is almost as bad as Airbus saying that there was a demand of 2000 A380s back when the A3XX program was launched.

In the June 14, 2004 edition of Aviation Week on Page 34 it says 3rd paragraph down that "Boeing is believed to have secured 50-75 additional firm orders for the 7E7 on top of contracts announced for All Nippon Airways and Air New Zealand"

So who are these 50-75 firm orders?

HlywdCatft -

I can confirm that orders are firm, but not yet signed and finalized. I can't disclose who they're from... and there's still talk about whether we're going to announce they're finalized, or wait for Farnborough. Only time will tell.
