Today around 1:00 in ATL, a large storm hit the Hartsfield air port and caused delays up to two and a half hours. I just flew out of there. I was flying an Air Tran 717. We had just pushed back and then the storm hit. We got pounded with a huge storm, causing delays. Once the weather cleared up, the amount of planes waiting to take off was amazing. At Least 25 planes trying to take off at 8L(i think). Air Tran 210 to Akron/Canton was about 12th. But after the hour delay it took another 2 hours to takeoff. We finally took off and the flight was a little bumpy but nothing to whine about.
Also there I saw my first 747, A KAL 747, passenger and cargo.
Other planes of mention:
Polar 747
South African A346
Delta Widget 767
And in order 3 MD-88's in all Delta coulers. First the widget then the middle scheme and then the latest one.

You didn't happen to get a pic of the 3 MD-88's in a row in the different colors did you?? That would make a great picture. A shot of the DL logo in the 80's 90's and 2000's all in a row.

Things in ATL are really messed up tonight. The 830 Atl-dab is now 1045. 11:14 Atl-Dab flight is not due out till 2 am. Atl Mlb 900 flight is now est well past 11. Atl-jax at 8:52 is 10:40, but the 1014 is on time(departed), and the 1130 is cancelled. The 1012 Atl-mco is 1210 and the 1130 is 100. As for Tpa the 848 is showing a 1048 dep, the 1008 showing a 1150 dep, and the 1130 est at 225. Those are just the fla flight that I looked at. It is going to be a long night. I was down here during the brunt of the storm and it was really nasty. Losts of pissed off pax i am sure, but you cant control the weather. Unfortunitly they never seem to care, or understand. I feel for the poor flight crews who are going to feel there rath.

We are counter buddies with Comair in TOL and it seemed that everyone just didn't understand that the agents didnt have control of the weather in atl. They had port authority cops just hanging out around the area today after the storm hit. Wonder how long it will be until operations returns to normal...

I don't understand what happening with the storm in ATL today and will bring back normal operation again tomorrow. It will not happening again with the weather.

Indeed, today was quite an interesting one for good old ATL. There were two hour-long groundstops encompassing ZTL2. After the conclusion of the second one, the GDP average delay jumped to 156 minutes. My airline had eight diversions between 1300 and 1500. As I was leaving work tonight, the GDP had just been lifted, however the better part of our 2200 push was showing to arrive in ATL sometime around 0030. And...tomorrow doesn't look too promising either. As a former boss of mine used to say..."Grab your socks".

I was in ATL tonight as well and it was a mess. My flight on Independence to IAD was at 9:30 and was on time. But the 7:00 Independence flight was cancelled and everyone was put on the 9:30 flight. It seemed that almost every flight in the early evening was delayed at least an hour.

Thanks for the heads up Thomas...I'll make sure Ryan (who lives in Atlanta) knows how bad the weather was.

It is amazing how bad the weather has gotten in ATL these last two weeks. I left ATL for F R A and then NUE on Sunday the 13th, and the whole week before that it rained some and now, according to my mom, it has been raining all this week and now there are these horrible storms. Good luck to anyone traveling from ATL!

Summer flying in ATL - ugh. Every year I wish I could quit from Memorial Day until Labor Day. The other option is to work trips that only fly in the morning. After 3 or 4 in the afternoon.....fugetaboutit.....

I hear Salt Lake City is nice this time of year!
Keep in mind that ATL got spared during spring...it is a little unusual to see all of this this time of year, but I quote from the Weather Channel "Last month was a June pattern and this month is a May pattern."
Glad I don't live there anymore!
