Well, what would you rather fly to LAS...CRJ-700 or MD-80. I also wonder if schedule had anything to do with it.

Allegiant Air must be doing something right to chase off HP from DSM-LAS route and FL from MLI-LAS route.

This is not good news for HP is discontinue from LAS-DSM and when will bring them back with service to DSM again and I know already service from PHX-DSM, right?

Allegiant has ICT to LAS non-stop service. HP used to have daily non-stop service years ago, but dropped prior to Allegiant.

Amazing huh. You think Allegiant will be there in six months? Think not. Suck a market dry and run. HP will no doubt be back.
I don't think they will leave, loads are about 3/4 full out of there usually. And where else are they going to go to, Farmville, Nebrasha?

Mesa has twice daily from PHX. I think they should start once daily to CID.

Given the higher CASM of an RJ and the low RASM of LAS routes I would bet yield was more of an issue than load factor.
The timing couldn't have helped much except for connecting passengers. Seat Pitch isn't much of an issue because YV CRJs have 31" of seat pitch. The problem is it doesn't feel like 31".

"Mesa- CRJ, arrives at 3:30 a.m. and departs at 5:00 a.m."
Iowaman, when did this flight ever leave DSM at 5 AM? The one time that I saw it on the boards at DSM was earlier this month and the flight left at 9:35 PM (two hours late the night that I flew in). I have been trying to find it listed somewhere online, but no one has it anymore. The arrival time is correct, but the aircraft stays until morning when it leaves for Phoenix. The return flight to Las Vegas is done in the evening on a flight that arrives in DSM from Phoenix. This is the general trend that HP does with many of its flights from LAS (arrive in LAS really late and leave "really" early).
Also, as a side note, this is the third time that HP has cut the DSM-LAS service. They operated it a long time ago (like 13-14 years ago) with a 737, then tried it when Mesa operated the F70s, and again recently with the CRJ.

People say HP's PHX-DSM route is pretty successful, any chance of HP or America West Express expanding this route to larger jets or more frequency? I know they've tried a couple of times using 737s on this route.

well a couple come to mind, billings is offered, eugene, meford, santa barbara, san luis obispo, all with crj and no competion. edmonton is on line now, maybe more smaller communities west of the rockies could use the crj service.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a bump in capacity either with a CR9 or adding a third flight. Right now gate space is becoming an issue at PHX while the new S2 concourse is being built.
