Well, I come into work this morning at Anchorage International Airport, and am getting the daily turnover from my cohort. Well during the brief, he tells me to follow him and we go out on the ramp, right next to the building is this small pile of stuff on the ramp.
For a second I thought it was a lump of tar on the but then I realized what is was, from my years of outdoor upbringin......BEAR CRAP!!!!
That's right, A black bear managed to get onto the ramp and nobody knew it was there until my opposite number called airport security.
If the TSA and Airport securty can miss a Black Bear, why are they even worried about taking scissors away from little old ladies.

The TSA and FAA were probably too busy for busting rampers with their SIDA badges in their pockets. But if you think it's bad now, wait until they get rid of the TSA guys and start back up with the private screeners again.
You would think we would've learned our lesson. Guess not.

Wow, that is scary! There was a recent incident at MFR where a passenger waiting outside in a line to board a regional jet left the line, walked over to the perimeter fence, possibly received an object from a person on the other side, and then got back in line and boarded the jet. This was not known by the TSA until after the jet departed....Amazing...

The TSA probably was too busy as you said making Grandma take off her shoes.
thats all we need is for the terrorists to dress up like a bear now and come onto the ramps.

Well, he did make inside the hanger.
But it makes a good point.
If a bear can make it onto an airport undetected, then what is going to prevent somebody who is intentionally trying to avoid Airport Security and sneak on undetected?

And you can imagine the effects of any aircraft (worse if it's a small one) crashing on takeoff or landing into a huge bear roaming the runway...
This reminds me of a recent issue involving how to take care of "eliminating" some 600 white tail deer living within the perimeter of Campeche's airport (SE Mexico, on the gulf coast), after a strike with a C182. After much ado, they were transferred to a nearby jungle area.

As to the non Americans/Canadians on here, the joke about the Labatt Blue has to do with the Labatt Blue commercials with a guy dressed in a bear costume. This series of commercials has been going on for several years, often showed on ESPN during hockey games.

This provides the conclusive answer to the age old riddle "Does a bear sh*t in the woods ?". The answer, apparently, is no - bears prefer Anchorage Airport.

I agree with BackFire, would you rather the security officials deal with wildlife or boarding passengers. Although it seems strange how a bear can get into the airport grounds like that?
