A few quieries...

  • Why are none of AV's aircraft Colombian-registered?

  • Why are LP's neither Chilean nor Peruvian registered?

  • Why are PZ's aircraft all Brazilian and not Paraguayan-registered?

  • Why is TA's fleet predominantly US- or Irish-registered?

  • It's strange how TAM can operate Brazilian-registerd planes within Paraguay yet AR can't within Chile and LAN can't inside Peru...

    Because Av has not enought money to have those aircrafts in colombian registration, like Fokkers are registered in Holland, and McDonell Douglas and boeing in United states. This registrations are paid by the Leasing company.

    I think it's easy for LAN to register its LPs a/c with a neutral registration. I've flown some VP registred aircraft within Chile:

    By this practice, they can use them for all LX/LA/LE(?)/LP. But remember LA does use CC aircrafts for LP: 767s and 340 for USA routes. I think in the case of PZ, Paraguay should accept this condition for JJ to introduce the airline. I think this is more related to the special condition PZ has as a "flag airline".

    I think there will always be other "under the table" reasons for Chileans not allowing "LVs" in our domestic or Peruvians and you people "CCs" in yours  Big grin

    I think Fokker50 also has a point (Hola Daniel, bienvenido, ya habra mas tiempo de "conversar").

    here is what i know.
    Avianca have their aircraft with irish and us registration because colombia is not a category one country so that means that colombian registered airlines can't operate in the us. ACES was operating their A320 with VP registration.
    LAN use their chilean registered aircraft for all their affiliates(LAN Chile, Lan Ecuador, Lan Dominicana, and Lan Peru) it goes the same way with the airbus A320 and the A340 that is operated with Lan Peru. i know that some of the A320 and 737 are VP registered.
    Taca only use US registered aircrafts because El Salvador is not a category 1 country but Costa Rica is, even though LACSA also operates with US registration. There were plans to move the hub from SAL to San Jose but I think its on hold. About the two irish registered aircraft. One of them is wet leased to CUBANA airlines, and that aircraft in detail can't operate to the US. I think it has something to do with the embargo.

    I am not sure about the technical issues about registering a leased plane, but it may well to do with tax regimes as well as, perhaps, offering some protection should the country fall into a lower category.

    SAL has been a CAT 1 for a looong time, recently it went down to 2 for about 1 year due to some legal technicallities - needed some new legal regulations or something like that - Now its back to 1..

    So that is not the reason. Maybe someone else can help us..

    Im thinking it may be insurance or bank realated.. since they are US registered they must follow all US regulation = cheaper insurance. Maybe a bank credit requirement too.

    Basically I think it´s about "costs". For example, and referred to another transportation system, many cruise ships are registered in Panama, but they belong to other countries. And the answer in this regard is simple, the Panamanian Legal System is very "friendly" about this.
